I like this piece but  I don't think I could properly critique it. Mermaids are not really my thing so I don't think I could give it a proper go, but it is a nice piece.

Haha it's ok you don't need to, not everyone can be into mermaids, that also would be weird xD. Thanks for still commenting

This is nice and I like the way the tail fin turns into a decidedly flat design resembling paper cutting. The face is really cute and doll-like. I like the wispy semi-transparent hair in the back of the head. It looks like it has a certain texture and I can imagine how it would feel under my fingers just by looking at it. The back of the neck/upper back is lacking the curvature that humans would have but it looks believable and supports the flow. I would have liked to see more hints of perspective in the background because the ground implies she's floating 5-10 cm above the sea floor, so if a floor plane exists, it leads into the assumption that it recedes into an implied horizon, yet all the dots in the background are the same size, so it sort of makes it look like there's a sheer curtain right behind her and the rest of the environment is hidden from sight. I think if you had used different sized dots with small ones in the back and bigger ones in the front, it would have prevented the curtain effect. Another option would be to make the background decidedly one dimensional without blurring and continue the paper cutting theme of the tail fin. The color palette is nice and collected.

Hello Ilona,

thanks for your comment . Yes the background looks a bit flat to be a real background and to uneven to be one-dimensional. The problem I had was that I don't like flat backgrounds but also was too lazy to put too much effort into the background so I just used some fancy brushes and some blurr effects .

Your comment was helpful and I'm glad I came off well with this piece
