Description I found some time today to do a little bit of sketching again and progressed the result in Photoshop.
Slightly inspired by the "TheThing" remake that I saw recently and have to say I found the things were just too beautiful/streamlined in design and lacked that abominable quality of the J.C. version.

Pretty awesome piece! The carapace look is spot on I watched something recently about the production of the remake/prequel and originally they did all practical effects and it all looked great but then the studio made them change it to a bunch of CG and completely change the ending. It's a shame, it had the potential to be a lot better. John Carpenter's The Thing is one of the best.

This is really gorgeous!Β  The newer "The Thing" was more of a prequel than a remake, and was mostly just very boring.Β  I agree about the creature designs, too.Β  The original movie's creatures were truly unearthly, unlike anything on this planet.Β  The creatures in the prequel were just kind of gnarly and unpleasant, but didn't feel foreign to me.

Thank You! yea, I know it was the prequel but it was so similar in story terms that it was also kind of a remake and that made it a bit strange for me.
But youΒ΄re right 'boring' sums it up pretty well.

IΒ΄m so often spending so much time rendering and in the end it looks too lifeless. I just need to develop a style thatΒ΄s more personal and more 'economic'. I just feel I need to draw much more. But itΒ΄s great that you like this how it is. Gives me hope.

Reminds me a bit of Kerrigan from Starcraft. Β Not a bad thing, that. Glad to see you're posting stuff again on DA. How do you transition from your sketches to the color in Photoshop? obviously, some of your sketch lines show through and some don't. Do you just change the color on the linework? Paint over..? both? I'm clueless, really.
