The nightmarish bane of new crobuzon's night skies..the slake moth from
China Mieville's novel - Perdido Street Station
this bugger hypnotizes people with it's wings;
fixated on the swirling patterns in the shapeless black wings, the victim succumbs to a dazed stupor..
slobbering serpentine tongue shoots out... and sucks the victims neural pulses/brainwaves/dreams/mind..
nothing is left but a drooling imbecile... incapacitated,
mindless...
death is better.

omg... You know, I kinda saw, in my head, the wings were a bit more colorful. But this picture really captures it, so much so that I feel now my head was wrong, and this is the correct version!

I've been thinking of sketching one of these since I hit the portion of the book where the caterpillars are delivered, so I thought I'd check out the competition.
I really like your design (especially the wings), but thankfully it's different from the one I had in mind. What program did you use for the coloring? Photoshop?
Did Mieville ever give a more detailed description of the moths? I'm currently at the page (about 200) where Isaac tells Yagharek that everything's gone to hell.

I used photoshop and painter.. actually, i don't recall an all-over description of the Slake Moth in the book. The only particularly striking descriptions were of it's head and wings, and it's attitude.. Though it was definitely humanoid to some degree.. Leaves a lot to imagination, thus i bet there are many different interpretations! Show me your design! (spoiler-the garuda will be ------------ hehe kidding)
