~My Masquerade~For the world I am displayed;
They always watch but cannot see
through my masquerade.
I feel every moment fly;
My heart is beating, pulse racing,
breath held as I lie.
My innocence I can't defend;
I know that surely this will linger
'til my very end.
I brought this all upon myself;
Mask upon mask, lie upon lie
like valueless wealth.
Dare I take these masks off – no!
My former self haunts me
everywhere I go.
False glory, false honor, false fame;
With all these masks I seem to have
forgotten my own name.

I have a friend who isn't fer self...who am I to say anything? But I have seen her with her guard down and just 'being' no acting or nothing and Im trying to get her to br herself but...again should I really be talking? I mean doesn't everyone act from time to time? If there is a person who hasn'y I would love to meet them. Great job by the way.

I know lots of people whom I should force to read this poem... They go around like they're... 'all that'... (I hate using the term 'all that'), and they should also probably listen to 'Cooler Than Me'... I REALLY don't like them. They make fun of me and my friends all the time, and if it wasn't school they did this in, they would probably be at a hospital. Great poem, by the way! Absolutely amazing!

This is quite literally one of the best poems it has been my pleasure to read.
I create poems off the top of my head myself, but I find more depth in reading that of others.
My death shall mark no end,
My soul forever fights,
All those who threaten,
All those who wish harm,
My soul is the ward against them,
Eternal pain,
Pain that I gladly suffer,
For those I love
Made up on the spot, a flicker of my soul.

Yes, my writing "muse" is quite fickle as well. I find that I'm more easily inspired when surrounded by creativity (such is on deviantArt), so I appreciate any good piece of literature that I stumble across.

I have found that I am inspired to write when in some extreme of emotion, but also occassionally I can just make one up, and I have in fact made a couple to help friends out in their time of need. I am a wordsmith, so that is my sword and shield.

I like this! No, I don't like this... I LOVE it!
It shows how a person projects a "false self" to the world in order to gain acceptance yet still wants to let the world see the "true self" and gain also acceptance. But since the world has already accepted the "false self," the person is afraid that he/she might not get accepted if he/she shows his/her "true self." Thus, the person continues the masquerade that he/she began, eventually forgetting the "true self."
After all, there are many things to lose once the person takes off the mask...

I like this piece of free verse.... I got in a muddle with this weeks prompt, spent the day editing. My poem completely changed throughout the day.... Do not think you will have to seriously revisit this free verse, a pleasure to read.

I had a bit of trouble organizing my ideas with this prompt as well. There's many different angles one can look at the idea of "masks." I ended up removing several stanzas that described which deceptions this individual took on, so that's why I was worried about the structure.
