Old Character - New Character
Looks like last night has brought on a BIG impact from Family Guy, and a large majority of the fans are not fond of Brian's death. Even this farewell video from FOX Animation Domination doesn't help. www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9DCo3…
While the episode title was certain of who was going to go (I'm relieved to say they didn't go with the obvious, Meg.), like many, I was still surprised. However, I'm not upset either. Brian is a main character in the series, but he's not my favorite in my opinion. There are qualities I liked and also rather disliked from him, but his death is not a point that I will stop watching "Family Guy". Family Guy, it's a humorous show that's been rather the same for years, and seeing how Brian's death affected the family, it'll be a rather interesting change in the show for a while...
And as for Vinny, Brian's replacement, I found him pretty decent actually. While I still believe Brian will return, for now we will see how Season 12 goes.

They need to bring back Vinny. Have him become Joe and Bonnie Swanson's dog. Then Brian would have a fellow Canine to hangout with!

Vinny was alright in my book. He was no Brian but no one can replace Brian even if he tried to be as unlikeable as he is. I don't hate Brian but I liked him a lot before Season 5...

I find Vinny a good character as well. He's one of my faves, and I even did a fandub of him.
Even though Brian's back now, I still do like Vinny. I can't wait to see Vinny's next Family Guy appearance.

i was saddened by hearing the news that brian was killed off
....altohugh i was saddened more when i noticed most of the family guy fanbase just jumped ship after it happened...

it's good to know that we live in a generaiton where change can change peoples minds in an instant.
as i said i was saddened....but i havwen't seen any of the newest episodes yet...so i can't judge vinny....but i think the fans are being waaay to harsh about this.
also the reason they axed him/killed him off is to try and be creative and new.
they're trying to re-invent it and stop it from suffering the fate that simpsons has fallen to.
(ironically simpsons are now about to axe off some well known character....i'm theorizing that they saw what the people at family guy did and thought "how about we do that?")
i still want to see an episode with vinny in so i can make my opinions....
for now i'm just eager and curious.
i will add one other thing:
i've seen on a few sites people complaining about vinny being racist.

people are talking about racism in family guy....have those people listend to any of the jokes? family guy has been in trouble several times for it's humor, and there are several mildy racist characters in it....yet the only complaint of it i've heard so far...is on vinny. why? why just vinny? why not mickey mcfinnigan who is clearly stereotyping an irish person.

I agree, while it was sad at first to see him go, I'm getting tired of seeing many complaints about bringing Brian back and them not watching Family Guy anymore. I liked Brian, but I see this as a way to shake things up in Family Guy, which was a reason for him to get killed off. I'm sure he will return, but for now we wait. Vinny isn't that bad of a character either, he's decent.

if anything i'm willing to accept change...and i'm usually the kind of guy that gets flustered/panicked at change.

(i saw the lif of brian....but i can't make impressions of vinny yet as that was an introduciton episode and as such his charactrer wouldn't be able to be clearly shown due to brian's passing)

Good news...
Brian is going to be back on the episode coming up in 14 days. Weather he is staying is unknown, but he will be in it...look it up..there are many articals covering the topic. I hope he stays, but it is unknown.

There was nothing about Brian's death at all in last night's season; and I thought Quagmire was going to fess up.
I wonder what Family Guy is up to; preparing Quagmire to appear regretful of Brian's death on Christmas Eve and appear a dig-loving man on Christmas Day? I know, it will kill Vinny's predicted roll as detective dog, and yes, it will ruin his and Stewie's chance to solve the murder mystery; but I just could not help but wonder what they are coming up with, since we are getting so close to Christmas.

Do we know of any suspects in the Family Guy series?

I hate to sound serious about a murdered cartoon character (and I mean that people would make a joke out of this), but I'm determined to find out who are the suspects to point out and the evidence that points out the murder suspect (i.e. the kind of car the murderer drove; what road that character was driving on; and what time Brian died.
Again, I may sound too serious over a cartoon character's death, but I am an animator who loves Brian as a comedian.
All the suspects I can come up with are Quagmire and the Giant Chicken.

Even if his death was sad, I trust that the writers will come up with the most surreal possible way to bring him back.

This episode has likely both pissed off and satisfied the fanbase.
Pissing off: Brian wasn't the best character but he still had great moments. He knew Lois belonged with Peter, had great lines, was often the voice of reason, and had been best friends with Stewie. He had pretty awesome moments like legallizing pot, showing Stewie the truth of his favorite educational show, and winning an award for the best porn film. He will be truly missed.
Satisfaction: Quagmire's explanation should have pretty much explained it all.
Nevertheless, I'll miss the original. I don't know if I'll like Vinny, but as long as he's got some decent quality to him, I'll give him a chance.

In my opinion, Vinny should play the role as a detective dog in helping Stewie find out who killed Brian and why. Sure, that might mean it becomes a recurring event, but this gives Vinny a chance to have fans love the new dog.
Also, because animals and babies are known to see ghosts, Brian should return as an earth-bound spirit searching for answers regarding his fatality.

While I am saddened that Brian is gone, I can't really go to conclusions about Vinny at this point, since he's only appeared in one episode so far. I will just have to wait and see more of Vinny's character revealed, though I kinda have found him pretty good after watching "Life of Brian".
I liked when Vinny helped address Stewie's problem being still upset by Brian's death while the rest have moved on immediately. After finding out Brian died, I felt the same way Stewie did until this part came up. I guess Vinny helped comfort me and some of the other fans as well.

Why do cartoon creators make stupid mistakes? First, you got Butch Hartman turning the Fairly Oddparents characters into jerks, the butchering of Teen Titans, now Seth MacFarline killing off Brian?
I'm going to miss him since he was pretty much the voice of reason, aside from his drinking and shenanigans with Quagmire.
