Description Yay, more digital art!  So, this is Sela, redone for 'The Challenger'  I did take some inspiration from the TV show, unlike my designs for a lot of the other characters, but I still changed a lot. Basically I used the general color scheme from the show and a few of the ideas. Unlike most of my villains, Cluny is not a Shadow Fighter, but Sela is. I changed it a bit, it's rather like Ublaz and Sagitar flipped .. the main villain is normal while his sidekick is a magic wielder. Sela's pretty powerful, though not even near Ublaz, and she tends to rely on her power too much, to make up for her lack of physical fighting skills. But as the sole Shadow Fighter .. eh, along with Chickenhound, who's learning .. she's pretty well respected. Anyways, I tried a new technic .. I made the lines near the same color as what they outlined, giving the idea of no outline. You'll have to tell me if you like it ^^ :3

Heh, ain't she a crafty conjurer with that phosphorus powder in her paw there!
Really cool pic, in any case!

Yea, she certainly is .. though that's actually pure supernatural power. Sort of like fire or lightning, just green .. and evil (the good kind is blue) I should have mad it swirl more, but I was lazy.

Thanks!

Heh, wow... I thought it was made clear by Brian Jacques that the "magic" performed by seers and vermin conjurers were generally all hooey...

Well, that was true ... in the original books, but these aren't those These are my rewrites of them, so I changed quite a few things .. even some of the world's actual principles. So yea, while not terribly common (especially in the time period of Sela and also especially uncommon in Mossflower) actual magic does exist. (Nations like Southsward, Sampetra, and the Highlands have a lot more magic users in them) Normally (but not always) used by villains, the Redwallers don't like magic. (never mind the sword of Martin is a magical item that their founder wielded, making him somewhat of a Prophet (the name of those wielding magic in the name of good) XP

Oh well, the Redwall beasts are rather self-righteous and egoistic in the time of 'The Challenger', Shadow, Ivy, Cornflower, and Matthias are the ones that have to turn that around. Whether they really succeeded or not .. eh. To an extent they did.

Heh, in my own mind, Martin the Warrior became something of a guardian angel...
Some RPs I'd done with a friend, I had the warrior mouse behave rather more informally, dropping out of character when he was surprised to find that the Abbot had left before he could impart the message he was sent to give. He remarked to our fan-characters that he was delayed by a conversation with a lion with father-issues (implied to be Mufasa's ghost) before getting back into character to deliver a message in rhyme. He then explained that he wasn't permitted to be more than explicit, since the Powers That Be only ever give him cryptic messages to pass on... some sort of rule among the all-knowing spiritual forces when communicating messages to the mortals...

I really love the idea of a the villain who has no magical powers, but his sidekick does! Maybe because someone who can be dangerous despite having no supernatural abilities always inspires respect in me. It's interesting to see your style mixed in with the style of TV series - I think that line-less technique makes it even more similar to the way the characters were portrayed in the series.

Yea, I wanted to do something different I like my Cluny, honestly I'll always like Ublaz better just cause of his cool demeanor, but he comes to rely on his magic too much and pays the cost. Cluny, while not as powerful has a insane brand of cunning that should inspire it's own respect. He's not a villain who goes crazy, he just is crazy and it makes him all the more dangerous. Though his lack of magical ability allows Sela to dupe him for a good part of the story, he figures it out eventually .. partly thanks to Chickenhound, but he still suspects it on his own.

Yea .. I didn't really think of it that way, but that is true, it is kind of is a mix of the two

Thanks (sorry I'm late, it's been a hectic week) It should be .. I still don't know quite what I'm doing here .. the original Redwall is really iconic, so I have to be careful what I change in the rewrite, where with other Redwall books it's not as important to sub things out. lol, I guess I shouldn't worry about it, it is after all a total retelling, so *shrug*

Welcome, and that's alright, I reply late to comments too. X) But yeah, I don't think you should worry so much either, since after all, it is a retelling.
