I think he would not been such seperated to the other lions. Perhaps he and sarabi were more than friends. (That would mean that simba won`t never be born...) and if Taka would not have run to the hyenas after his struggle with Muffy, Riku have not been such angry with him because of sarabis comment and following.

Because of his friendship to the hyenas he feels like an outsider - so he becomes an outsider.I mean at the moment he is still not interested in becoming king - so I think without the hyenas he never won`t be jealous of his brother.
