HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHINERAAAI and I truly must thank you, because I'm FUCKING PROUD OF THIS excuse my language. Seriously, I've been feeling so down about my art and this just lifted my spirits 150%. So thank you Shin, thank you. :'DAnyway, happy birthday to one of my favorite dA artists! Hope it's a good one.

Oh I certainly use refs! The only things I draw without refs are my own OCs, and I think you'll find that a common theme throughout dA.

Oh my gosh!! Beb this turned out so gorgeous, I don't even know what to say TT_TT You BETTER be feeling proud of this, haha. You've done a beautiful job illustrating my character! That background is simple and very eye catching. It also really harmonizes with his orange patterns!
I love your lineart. It's been a long time since I've done really thin lineart like that myself, and for me it's a very difficult thing to color but it turned out looking fantastic, so kudos to you! Even those scales turned out looking so crisp, you must have spend a lot of time on them!
You did a great job at getting all of his minor details correct, like the shape of the peach part of his feathers, the actual layout of his scales, his wing-arms, and the shape of his face. The color palette is spot on too, with that subdued grey and dark black on that bright orange! And I really like that you gradiated your shadows. It's especially noticeable on the wing and it keeps the shadows from looking TOO sharp and bold, but it lets us know they're there and that this creature has spacial form. ♥

I actually worked on it while it was 5000x4680, just to get the thin lines while keeping them easy to work with. Then I resized when I posted. I work big

oh my, that definitely is really huge!! But I understand. I think I work with a similar document size but I'm really not sure anymore. I tend to let it be whatever size it wants to be xD!!!
