My GOD, I did this entire page in 3 hours. Start to finish, one sitting, no breaks, in my bed. I usually split it up over thursday and friday, but I had other stuff to do yesterday, so I just did it all now! So I apologize if there are inconsistencies here. I also want to remind you that Khari has 3-4 siblings that starved. And we don't know if Masa had a litter before Khari, so the text in panel 5-6 are her memories. Just to clear that up.Laters!

Kind of wish the mother had reprimanded Khari here. Kaluwa is remembering that her old family died and was traumatized as a result, and now Khari is antagonizing her for it on the assumption that she doesn't care about her current one. I get that he's six, but he's acting around ten and the mother should have stepped in, giving it a perfect time to teach him that it's wrong to lash out like that.
From how it goes here it kind of cheapens Khari's memory of her old family and her reaction towards it, because due to Khari's outburst it gets glossed over rather quickly. Plus it makes the characters look passive, like that they don't care about Kaluwa's mental wellbeing. The next page almost makes it seem that the reveal didn't really matter anyways.

To be fair, Masa has been through a lot when it comes to her own child. Everyone of them except Khari died, so she wants to keep them close by not criticizing or being what her kids would see as mean or controlling. Khari is extremely emotional, and having grown up an only child of his own species makes him somewhat immature.
Well, the other lions present are all her friends, yes, but they're also young themselves. They're 10-11 years old around here, and most children that age don't know how to react to a child younger than them having what is practically an emotional breakdown. I'm sorry you feel it cheapens the characters, but I do have to keep the story moving, and this scene had dragged on for a while. It is an important part of the story, but it's more for backstory than main story arc. I have to balance the two, without giving one too much attention, so I chose to quicken this part of the story so we could progress to the next.

Poor Masa... Cheetah lose a lot of her cubs because the hungry or predators (lions almost aways :/)
