Vlad's hooves thunder on the firm ground, golden grass being devoured under his broad stride, cloudy sky casting shadows overhead giving the forest a gloomy atmosphere. They were making good time, Aurora reckoned, pulling on the reins gently to slow her mount, steadying him enough to confidently take a double brush fence. He slips slightly on the second landing, having taken a sharp turn, but with a gentle correction of Aurora's seat the black stallion regains his footing and lurches forward into a gallop to meet the next obstacle. Trying to take some time back from their little stumble, Aurora cuts a corner beneath a young birch tree, a low hanging branch whipping across her chapped cheek, slicing her skin. The sharp cut stings intensely, making her eyes tear as the pair leap over a wide sand trap. The shallow wound begins to bead with blood as they race toward the water combination. They leap a solid birch obstacle at a canter, deceptively simple looking on the chewed up riverbank, and they plunge into the chilly stream. Vlad lets out a tiny whinny of protest as he lands in the frigid water, and begins to splash through. Rory leaves him alone, gives him his head to let him keep his powerful legs steady on the sliding mud, and with a few lunges they explode out the other side and over another birch rail - cold but closer to the finish line.

OK, so those who have watched me for a while might recognise this one. For a long time I was disappointed with the placing, but you know what, the old one was NOT all that good. Sure, it was pretty I guess, but it was missing a lot of elements that actually made it look like a cross country entry. The old one didn't even have an obstacle for heckin' sake. I revisited it, changed and added a lot of bits and pieces and I think I am now happy with it.

I hope you guys like this, in my opinion, much improved version of the most favourited piece of art in my gallery
