Is not the same Malefor of LOS series, in LOS is more ancient hero, corrupted by a being much powerful of him and more with tragic backstory and used to be originally the father of Spyro.

The comic arc isn't out yet, but Issue 7 will be out in March.
I would suggest looking on Amazon, Google Play, your local comic stores or the official IDW Publishing website to look and buy the comics.

He's going to appear in the comic at least, even if he doesn't appear, he would probably be too dark of a character to add him into a kid's game, depending how dark he is.
