Sapphers, this is darling. It portrays such an innocence. It's simple, it's heartfelt, and it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. You're going to get criticism where ever you go. Don't let it get you down and keep doing what you love. If it makes just one person happy it's worth, i think.

the line across the road, where the road into the BG becomes lgihter, it feels like she's standing in front of painted scenery. I like how surreal looking it is, and the simplicity of the flowers. her eyes are stunning and the outfit is a ncie choice of color. Very nice work, I beleive.

Parents like to bitch when they see paintings that aren't 100% realistic or don't use amazing proportions, unless they're artists themselves. Heaven forbid you use a unique style. I really like this though, I think this would make an amazing card cover for a Hallmark Card, well any card really, as a thank you card or even as a nice house painting, I really like this. (It's really strange for me to comment on art nowadays, but all of your art is deserving). I think you should maybe even do more paintings in this style. My mom even tells me sometimes that I sing like crap, though I'm in the hardest to get into choir, and I got into it my freshman year(I'm a sophmore now). >_> I think parents insult us because they think it'll make us try harder to defy them.. It works for me, but still, it's rude.

As soon as I saw it, I knew it was personal.
And that is the thing that makes it so great. You can have perfect technique all you want, but if an artist does not invest some of herself into the painting, it becomes static and unfeeling, and the viewer will know.
Keep this stuff up!

It's also one of the more expressive pieces you've done. I love the use of color in the clouds and the skin, you just paint so freely. The simplicity is what makes it so pleasing.
And since when has your parents' judgement been remotely correct? I mean, Shawn, and eating disorders, etc. They don't know what they are talking about. And my dear, I'd say you have a bit more experience in critiquing art than they do. There have been so many artists who were rejected by their parents, and they turned out to be world-renowned. Don't even pay attention to what they say.
