Description don't fav this

just crit.
please...crit.
for the love of god critique this.

I can't do much better than this and I don't know what to fix.
however...internet was dead so I had no reference.

only thing I can think is the hair issue, the right eye being too far/weird, and the eyes just being..big. also the ear looks like a prune. but again I don't know how to fix them.

but yeah seriously please help. ;n; I want to work on my people.

not supposed to be any person in particular by the way. just scribbled her when my internet died.

oh and if it helps, I'm not going for realism or anime. I want to try disney (go figure, I'm a typical "sparkle fluff dog" ja?) but...even that's different. I'd say my favorite style is the style in Anastasia (idk I see a...slight different in it from other disney movies...slight xD ) ...so I'm kinda going for something similar to that if people want to give me tips on how to head toward that style.

A couple things I can say. Moving the lips a bit forward, they don't look bad where thy are, but it makes the face look very arrow shaped, again, not bad, but not as natural? I know you had no reference, but one thing to look at is that human eyes are shaped different than canines, but I like your style of eyes.

I probably wasn't much help, but I gave my own bit of critique.

I think it looks amazing for no ref.

This is actually really pretty!
And I wish I could help, but I'm going through kinda the same thing.
I'm actually [because I'd like to try a Disney style too] drawing origional Disney characters for practice before drawing new characters and changing the style up a bit or whatever you're aiming to do.
That was probably useless since that's probably what you already had in mind, but hey! Thought I'd mention just in case.
And I would say round the face a little more, but it doesn't look bad like this. Everyone draws people differently so in ways the size of eyes and lips etc. doesn't matter so much because again, it's all just what you're trying to aim for!
Great work with this, nonetheless. <3

looks great! it makes me happy to know that someone is going for a disney style, i love it and not to many people try it. For advice, the face shape is perfect, the only thing I can say is maybe do more detail lineart on the hair. It's hard to say cuase it depends on the style

that could be because anastasia is not a disney movie I think a Disney-esque style would have maybe just one line on the ear, or maybe a few when it's fully visible. ears are strange.

I really do like your style in humans anyway sam, but if you want some help....
maybe the nose can be the SLIGHTEST bit thinner-looking, maybe the ear could be just a little rounder, and the eyes just a TAD smaller. :3

but over-all, I LOVE the hair and the way you colored the eyes, and the lips look so.... REAL for a cartoon pic 8O

If you're going for their older style...
Shading is very different with Disney. They don't shade a character unless...
1) they are evil
2) they are in the shade or a tree or some other object
3) they are about to die
[link]
[link]
[link]
[link]
[link]
[link]
It's also a more bold shadow as well (when it's there).
There is hardly ever shading on people..
[link]
[link]
[link]

Usually, with Disney characters the eyes are a tad smaller, and coloring is very plain. Their hair is also very poofy, unrealistic, and neat..
The cheek bone is very pronounced, and so are the eyes. I think that this picture would be the best reference...

I hope I helped

Ok, this is awesome. Kay.
But lets see. Humans are not alike to canines, and I see in your canines they have wide foreheads, well, the bit between the eyes.
Anyways, The eyes are a tad to far away from each other. Also. I suggest drawing an oval shape then draw aliened line's across the face. Just so you can play around with the detail.
If anything is hard to draw, try and find other drawings, like for lips/ears so on.
Great drawing.

I also try to "copy" a certan cartoony style when it comes to humans, but it's not heading my way, so the only thing I can "help" you with is that you're not alone...
Maybe you can search for tutorials here on dA? It helped me... Kinda.
Or maybe copy characters from the movie and then go from there...? I dunno.

the problem i have with it is that it looks like it's a very human anthro pic, like her ears are trying to turn into elf or bat ears, and her eyes are waaay too cat like, if they were smaller and less upturned at the corners and the ear was rounder and not so narrow on the lobe, i think you'd be much closer to a great human face. But hey, I'm not much of an artist when it comes to humans or anything haha. That's my opinion though.

the ears are pretty high up and the neck looks weird to me, the way it goes into the chin i guess? i have to say that references really helped me when i was first starting out drawing humans... you should first practice doing some realism from references or from real subjects. or look up a guide online about how to draw faces and anatomy and that kind of thing, looking at diagrams of the proportions really helps (me at least). also, having an anatomy book hanging around for when you're really stumped is never a bad idea. i have a really old one with the cover falling off that my art teacher was giving away and it works fine.

and if you want to work towards that certain style, tracing for practice or referencing pictures from the movie would be fine as long as you didn't copy exactly or claim what you traced as your own and blah blah blah but i'm sure you know that

lol this is an unusually long comment for me... xD

You see a difference between Anastasia and other Disney movies because Anastasia isn't Disney. It's by Don Bluth. Don Bluth's other movies include An American Tail, The Land Before Time, All Dogs Go To Heaven, Thumbelina, The Pebble and the Penguin, and Titan A.E.

That said - the eyes need to be lowered a little bit, and her left (our right) brought in slightly closer to the bridge of her nose, unless you want them to be really wide-set like Jasmine's are. Her nose isn't quite perky enough - it looks a little like the tip of it has been smooshed. Her mouth is a little too low in her chin, and her ear is too high (the top of the ear should line up with the outside corner of the eyes).

Also, if you're going for the Disney-esque, her hair should be pieced a bit more, which sounds odd. What I mean is that chunks of bangs should have lineart making them clearly separate from the rest of the hair, because otherwise it blends together oddly.

Example: [link]

See how the curve of her bangs has been lined off from the rest of her hair? This helps us distinguish what shape her hair actually is.

Cheers!

Overall, this picrue is good.
However, if you should fix something, it would be the ear, the right eye (the biggest one) and the nose.

The nose is a little big I think and I also think you should be able to see the other nostril.

The eye is fine but I think if you moved it more to the left it should be okay.

The ear is just a bit too small and positioned too high.

I hope I helped. And I love all your art.

If you want to replicate that style, honestly tracing is the way to go. I'm probably going to be burned horribly for using that word positively, but its true. As long as you don't claim what your tracing as your original piece, obviously, it can really help with anything. Even in realism, tracing 100 hands or feet can potentially help you better understand the anatomy.

So even for Anastasia's style, by tracing stills from the movie or something you can probably get a better idea on how the eyes, noses, mouths, etc. are shaped in that style. Or at least you might learn a lot faster than just eyeballing the pictures.
Other than that, I don't really know what advice can be given for that specific style from anyone who's not one of the animators hah

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Samwich In reply to Araceli [2008-04-19 23:49:33 +0000 UTC]

you shouldn't be burned for that, I'm pretty sure a lot of artists do that for help but don't want to admit it. xP heck, I trace dogs all the time, I just don't submit them and try to just apply what I traced to a new picture. I don't know why tracing didn't cross my mind for this.. haha thanks for reminding me! XD <3 I just hope I could find good enough shots or pictures to help.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Araceli In reply to Samwich [2008-04-20 00:00:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that would probably be the more difficult part =/ in a few minutes on Google I found a site with quite a few stills from the movie, but really the biggest issue would probably be the size of the pictures.
Last resort you could play the movie on TV, pause it, and tape a paper to the screen? Hahah
