At first I was upset because they changed the suit so much, but now that I've seen this picture I think it is amazing, I'm traditional when it comes to Superman so I'm surprised actually.

How could they be played out lol? That's like saying his cape is old fashioned or his S is too old school, it's apart of his iconic costume, simple as that. He is a alien that can fly and lift hundreds of pounds, realism or believability does not matter, especially when it comes to a super heroes costume.
This is a cool suit though, even better than Jim Lees new version. Why does superman need armor? He doesn't...

Superman, Batman, Cyclops, Wolverine...all moved from outer undies to the pants look...I dig it, less pro wrestling look, but what does all this say for Namor?

dude, this is my take on the jim lee design.
a guy in armour cuts a more imposing and heroic figure then someone in spandex with his undies on the outside.
if you werent so familiar with the character and his 'iconic look' then it would look strange as hell.

The Superman Returns suit looked great and it only had slight changes to the suit, people disliked Superman Returns because of it's lack of action not because he wore red trunks.

I know, and it's actually better than Jim Less, have you seen the "shiny armor" pics of the new suit? It looks absolutely horrible, Superman is already an imposing figure because he is has God like powers, but the whole idea of Superman (and his suit) is not to impose power or fear, but to display his goodness. He isn't batman looking to strike fear into the hearts of criminals staring them down with an angry face and a armored suit, he like a super hero version of Jesus, he flied through the sky with a brightly colored suit and a smile on his face, he only uses his powers for the betterment of humanity and he tried to lead humanity by example of justice, truth, and goodness.
When I was young I could've cared less that he wore red trunks over his suit, I loved the character just the way he was, and most people do, so the whole argument that a new generation wont "get" why he wears what he does is just dumb.
