Description Native American/First Nation/American Indian tribal tack/decorations. Actual members from several tribes were riding in a parade. Sorry, I don't have the name of the specific tribe pictured. The horse is a leopard appaloosa.

A very impressive package... I almost wish I had something to use it for. Got to love App's (my familys raised them for generations) and even more so with beaded tack... definatly have an idea how much work that is... beadwork and quill work both are time consuming

It was a great scene. I wish I could show the rider's face. Beautiful woman from the Stony Nakoda tribe, I believe. Alas, no model release.

I can't imagine how much work that is. Having done this sort of bead work yourself, I'm sure if gives you an added layer of appreciation.

There is a fulled bead hood that covers the horses head and neck, save the eyes, nose, and ears, in the Museum of the American Indian in DC. Its an immensely impressive piece. The shear size of it is amazing.

The lady's dress is a Plains Traditional style...the pelt is Timber wolf. Beadwork I'm not sure of...possibly Chippewa?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SalsolaStock In reply to Mahekun [2008-08-14 21:47:11 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I think she was indeed from a plains tribe, part of the Sioux Nation, I believe. My memory wants to say Stoney Nakoda. I just don't want to put that without being sure and potentially mislead someone by accident. By timber wolf I am guessing you mean canis lupus, and I agree with that, too.

SalsolaStock In reply to dana-redde [2008-08-13 17:51:38 +0000 UTC]

Actually, it's an Appaloosa. They call this pattern a 'leopard appaloosa', and they can be mistaken for paints. I'm glad you said something. I meant to put that in the description.

I actually was wondering about that and hoped you would correct me if I were wrong--so thanks!! My horse knowledge is very limited, but I'm trying to remedy that.

I've mislabeled my own horse photos before and it's nice to have someone gently steer me in the right direction. I grew up on a ranch with a horse as a babysitter, but I'm limited to the western side of things. I'm just learning about the english and draft breeds as I take a pictures of them and post them. I read a whole lot on gypsy/cob/drum horses yesterday and I'm still pretty confused. I know they has super hairy legs!!
