Description I haven't done any speculative biology in a long time, but I had this idea kicking around in the back of my head for an alien fish analog with a propulsion system similar to a bladeless fan.

It's a small predator, cruising slowly through the open ocean and snapping at small, ciliated creatures with its bobbit worm-like trunk. The speed of its trunk makes up for its inability to move quickly, allowing it to pick single organisms from their shoals.

For the propulsion system, a narrow band of cilia is sufficient to propel this creature, taking advantage of the coanda effect to make it several times more efficient. Perhaps this design would be more ideal for a deep-sea creature that has to expend as little energy as possible in propulsion.
