The basketwhales are the largest Qelkoran animals. The largest ones are around twice the size of a blue whale, but this one is just blue whale sized. Because of Qelkore's slow rotation, the only current is a huge convection current that pulls surface waters to the cold end of the planet and one in the air that pulls air above the water to the hot end. Most animals and plants take advantage of this by using a sail to keep themselves still, but basketwhales are completely underwater so they have to swim against the current. They mostly try to stay in one spot because the current brings plankton right to them.
They are called basketwhales because of their large mouth that is used to strain plankton from the water. The gills act like a sieve. The head is just used for seeing and as an egg pouch.
Basketwhales are not fast, but they are powerful swimmers because they need to stay in one place without the help of the wind. This means that they can not quickly escape predators. They are fast enough to swim away, though, and very few Qelkoran animals are fast anyways. They have a tail that has the same function as some lizard's tails: the predators bite on to it before they bite the rest if the animal.
