Description ... and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe! From the Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll in Alice through the looking glass!

... yep here's its current state and I will leave it like this for a few months and get on with other things!

I was always disappointed with the explanations of the words in this poem ... see Humpty Dumpty in Alice through the Looking Glass ... so here is how I see the toves, borogroves and mome raths ...

The door leads to the corridor of relative normality from the beginning of Alice in Wonderland ... just in case you wanted a way out.

HB and 2B pencil on heavy weight cartridge paper ... 29x53 cm

I am pretty sure that I have said this before...But, I absolutely LOVE this drawing!

I grew up reading Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. I think I must have read it about fifty times. I think I like it because it is so much like my dreams and I have Good memories associated with it. So, looking at this drawing makes me happy. But, also, I love the unbelievable detail.

Certainly a far more surreal vision of the poem than I've ever seen. I love the soft shading, it almost looks like an occlusion render.

May I use this for a class project? Only the class will see it, and you will get credit for your work.

That sounds fine in principle. If you don't mind me asking, what is the project you will be doing in class?

Since 'Alice in Wonderland' just came out, my English teacher wants the class to translate the poem "Jabberwocky" in our own words. I'm using a powerpoint, and to me, image is everything.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SalHunter In reply to MBKKR [2009-11-25 22:00:02 +0000 UTC]

Hehehe ... most people miss them, they are the mome raths. There is a borogrove hidden very near to them and just above ... (I felt it was more plant like than anything else, it has eyes on the end of its branches) ... and there is a slithy tove on the right hidden in the tree type things of the tulgey wood!

Thank you!

Amazing. Your work with shading leaves me speechless. The whites and greys work so well together its unbeleivable. The soft look is amazing...everything about it is praiseworthy. As for the title, i hope it is finished. it looks amazing already.

Glad you like it! It did progress further in the background but not by much. I still haven't decided whether it is finished yet!
