Description Yep ... another old one .... and yep you have seen it before ... I deleted it in a senior moment ... watercolour and ink ... about A3 size.

From middle age we all accumulate tangled neurons in the hippocampus, the bit of the brain that appears to deal with the organisation of memory ... perhaps that is why, as we age, senior moments become more common.

why would you ever delete this???
it's beautiful man.
so very organic.
what did you do? apply the watercolor then follow the spontaneity with your brushwork?
very cool man.

Thanks! (I deleted it in a kind of spasm and then re-uploaded a few months later)

I work as a scientist in dementia research and I often look at brain tissue under a microscope ... this just grew out of my thoughts around a protein called tau which forms tangled filaments inside neurons and this process is connected with both ageing and dementia ...

I had a vague idea when I started about how I wanted the tangle to look and tried to capture that with a series of very loose washes (yellew ochre, burnt sienna, ultramarine and Paynes grey ... both as individual layers for optical mixing and as washes of mixed colours so they could do their thang). Then I kept building with increasing density of pigments ... then I spent about two years with a Rotring pen doing dots ... and then I added subtle bright washes carefully on the top using Lemon yellow, ultramarine and both colours mixed in a weird greenish wash to bring things forward and take things back ... tada!

I wish I had more time for this kind of thing ...

Gee, Sally- are you old, too? I thought you were in your 20's. If I survive just over 2 more years, my body will be sixty!
The only way around old age is to die young.

Hehehe ... though some people rather wish I would just grow up ... at least that's what they keep telling me!
