Description I went through my faze of Advent Children obsessiveness(i know it's not a word....it's MY word) a couple of months ago and ever since i started working with 3D, i really wanted to do this model. It really is a kick ass movie.

Anyways, this is going to be submitted for my portfolio for Sheridan that is due in exactly 1 week and two days. It's kind of nerve wreaking, like my whole future is riding on this acceptance *breathes in, breathes out*

Please be honest when commenting on this. This is super important to me!

Ooops, forgot to copyright it so the scary people from Square aren't banging on my front door

I think the blade looks a little short and narrow for the handle. Other than that it looks great.

Awesome Looks like a true copy! Its a hard one to model, and I think you did a good job doing it ^^
If there is a thing I could point out, it can only be that I think the shaft, where you hold the blade, is a bit too thick.

Very cool, if there are any flaws, I havnt seen them. Maybe the texturing could try and get that scratchy-metal effect his sword has, but making textures for 3D objects is a totally different realm and requires skills in other programs. ( lets say this one is brand new )

Yay Advent Children! Nice render btw. Are you going to model other parts of the sword?

Right now, I don't think so. I made this model about a year ago with Studio Max and at the moment I'm working on a film with Maya. Even if I tried opening Max, it might take me a bit to remember how to use it . But it's an idea!

excellent modeling! I see you've got through a lot of trouble making all the details.. Just one thing- The lighting is I believe a standard omni.. you should use photometric skylight to make the scene more realistic!!

thanks for the idea. At the time I didn't know a lot about lighting so if i go back to fix the model up, I'll definitely keep that in mind!

Is there a replica sword that loooks just like this one?

i based it off the Advent Children Buster Sword as much as possible from screen shots of the movie.

You did a pretty good job. The part between the handle, and blade looks a little weird to me though, the edges are too sharp. I also think it would look better if you put a more detailed texture on the handle, and upped the reflection on the blade, as well as giving it something to reflect.

thanks for the critique, i have indeed fixed the handle as much as my skills would let me and i will defiantly keep those things in mind for future projects since my portfolio was sent off last week.

Thanks again

If I had this in my portfolio it would poke through it and get me arrested. If it was in a scabbard maybe.

Looks pretty cool.
Good luck with the acceptance.

One thing you might want to add, maybe its there and I can't or didn't see is a shinier bit of metal around the edge of the sword. Check out sharp knives and high end scissors and you can see the shiny area. That shiny area gives the sword the feeling that its sharp and its not a block of metal.

i like it--i think it's a cool model--if you want to impress them, add more detailing...make the grip look more leathery, and the blade look more weathered, overall...

Parasyte123 [2007-02-06 21:32:43 +0000 UTC]

Wow, it looks pretty close to the one from the (indeed a kick-ass) movie! Excellent job on the shadow as well. Best of luck for the portfolio!

Mog2005 [2007-02-06 21:07:59 +0000 UTC]

From what I can recall formt he movie, the hilt is suppsoed to be hollow... or at lead that wide, so Cloud's other swords fit together.

I know how hard you worked on this, and I think it's safe to say it was tiem well spent... To produce this in such a short amount of time is amazing. that brand new sheen it has looks so good as the light hits it, just like a display model!

This is realy awsome! Although I dont like how the hilt is so empty.

shigure-kisune [2007-02-06 20:55:13 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I really like it. Without even reading the artist's comment I definitely saw Cloud's sword. My only suggestion might be to think about textures and color details. But that will be something that you can work on later, I imagine. As it stands you're pretty amazing at details. Bravo.
