-Colbie has a strong hold over his abilities. Each was obtained in a different way. The Fire ability was absorbed when he was 16 and at a party. The Enhanced strength was absorbed when he got into a fight when he was 18. The telepathic powers, the most unnatural ability an Occulta Fures could find, was obtained after an incident a few months after his fight. Telepathic powers are not only hard to come by, but they are extraneous on the mind. Colbie was able to learn to control and wield the ability without much trouble.

Occulta Fures Powers:

-The world Colbie lives in is a slightly changed version of current Earth. People are aware that there are magic users and different creatures roaming around the globe, but those creatures and people with different abilities typically hide their true abilities and blend in with humans to protect themselves and their kinds.

-Colbie is a member of a family made of up the “Occulta Fures” species, a race of people that have “connectivity powers”. It is a bloodline trait and can only be spread by biological birth. The particular powers allow a person to willingly absorb powers or energy from another person through direct skin contact.

- The power can be controlled, but if the user’s body cannot completely keep control of a particular ability they have absorbed, it is possible that if future direct skin contact occurs, the power could be released and potentially cause bodily harm. The user of the ability must learn how to control each absorbed/received power in order to prevent such incidents.

-If a power is absorbed and it is too much for the body to handle, the body of the user will expel the power in order to preserve the user’s health and safety.

-People with particular powers have what is called “life energy”, as do humans. Life energy is necessary for survival. Contrast to this, a person’s powers or abilities are not essential to live or function properly, and can be removed without causing lethal harm. Occulta Fures are able to “borrow or steal” a person’s powers, meaning they are able to copy the ability of another person. This happens through skin to skin contact. A person’s powers are easier to absorb than a person’s energy; Life energy, because it is necessary to live and vital to a person’s health, circulates throughout one’s body and is intertwined with the rest of the body’s systems. A person’s powers, on the other hand, are not needed to live, and although they are circulated throughout the body as well, they do not attach, cling, or bind themselves to any part of the body, making their removal easier.

-The body can handle an absorbed power in 1 of 3 ways:

-The body can handle the power taken in and no harm is done to the user

-The body cannot handle the amount of power/type of power obtained and automatically expels the power from the body within a matter of minutes

-The body cannot handle the power, but the body cannot react properly to get rid of it, and the user is killed within minutes.

Backstory:

Colbie is the first and only child of his parents: a human mother and an Occulta Fures father. He is the descendant of dozens of O.F. before him, inheriting the blood family ability. For the first 10 years of his life, Colbie was aware of the power he possessed and didn’t think anything negative of it. He was homeschooled until his parents were sure he was able to understand and control his abilities. But once he started attending a local private school, it became clear that he was unable to socially connect as he felt separated from others at the school. In addition, he began to show that he had a temper that caused him to easily become frustrated and impatient. His parents attempted to pull him out of school to home school him again, but he insisted that he could keep his head clear and focus on his studies. When he reached 16, Colbie’s persistence to blend in with crowds grew, and he tried attending a party in order to show his fellow school mates that he was normal and sociable. Though when he arrived, he quickly felt out of place and even began causing a scene when another student was aggressive towards him. This is where Colbie gained his Fire abilities, after pushing the student away from him as he was leaving. This was the first time Colbie had not been in control of his power, not realizing he’d taken the fire ability until he got home. After this incident, his parents removed him from the private school kept him primarily at home.

When he was 17, he had a run in with students from his ex school, and the group was quick to initiate a fight with Colbie. This time, thought, Colbie purposely allowed himself to absorb one of the group member’s powers, as he could tell that the boy had an abnormal quality to him, which later was found to be an enhanced strength. Colbie continued to learn how to control and use the two abilities he’d obtained, eventually obtaining his telepathy powers by accident a couple of months later. He was taking a walk through the city when the crowd he was in became startled and chaotic by an accident that had occurred only a few blocks down. He became panicked and attempted to leave the disgruntled crowd, a telepathic user noticing his distress from a distance. When the telepathic user attempted to calm Colbie, Colbie rejected the man forcefully and fled back to his home. He discovered he had absorbed the telepathic ability that same night, when he was trying to talk himself into a calm state into his head all while unaware that he was using the ability between himself and the nearest person, his mother.

After the final incident, Colbie lost interest in his studies completely, and focused more on training himself to use the abilities he had gained over the last couple of years as well as teaching himself to have strict control over his own power. By the time he reached 19, he was able to have full control over it. He was able to willingly take or return power through touch, and had a slightly easier time blending into the world around him. But out of precaution, he kept his distance from crowded areas and typically wore clothing that covered his arms and legs completely, severely lowering the risk of a slip up if he was not able to keep his powers under control. He started to feel as if he didn’t like being a member of the Occulta Fures family, and began wishing he could be ‘normal’ like those around him. He discovered that he didn’t have nearly as much control when he was angered or panicked, resulting in his slowly growing seclusion from stressful environments and situations. Once he would meet Emma Peterson, though, he would learn that he would be able to live a so called ‘normal’ life he wished for, but would also begin to see that his raging emotions and slight temper would make it hard for him to keep a firm control over his abilities.
