Description Here's his Wikipedia entry: [link]

Scarecrow probably needs no introduction.
I will just say that in the books, Scarecrow was not a dream version of a Kansas Farm-hand named Hunk.

He was not given a diploma by the Wizard, he had his head removed and filled with bran, pins and needles.

In the books he mysteriously came alive with no explanation. No Powder of life is involved.

It is implied, however, that he is the reincarnation of the Emperor of the Silver Islands a land much like a caricature of China that is below the surface of the Munchkin Country.
But imo that's not true.

He ruled the Emerald City after the Wizard left Oz, but was deposed by Jinjur.
He helped restore Ozma, daughter of Pastoria to the throne.

I need to be kept from overthinking, because right now, I'm trying to weasel a way for the Scarecrow of Oz and Fiyero-Crow to exist in the same continuity, as separate characters. Please get me to stop.

This has to be my favorite depiction of him. I wish more people had read the book - the movie's got nothing on it.
I love this picture.

That means a lot to me!
The books are so much better yet people only watch the movie.

It's so true, and such a shame. But oh well.

I don't know if it's true that he's Chang Wang Woe, but The Royal book of Oz is very funny.

In my fan-fic,Ruth Plumley Thompson's first Oz book was fiction, not canon. Maybe an early chapter was canon, but ...

There are so many contradictions in the Oz mythos, that I must sort & reject. I hint at 2 parallel Ozs along with Baum's. The Russian one, and Philip Jose Farmer's one.

Yes, I never cared for the idea of him being a reincarnation of anyone.

I read the book, thank you for stating the truth! But I don't really think that they'd be able to rip off his head, remove the contents, fill it back up and stick it back on with the special effects they had back then.

Technically they could have....but I don't think he'd have lived through the ordeal. XD
Thanks for the comment.

I think you are aware of my opening pages of "Casper & Co. in Oz" in my profile, but be patient. I am struggling with a lack of energy and a lot of distractions. Doctors' appointments, need to fix some electronic stuff, etc.

In my Oz novel, the scarecrow is the creation of Tattypoo the good witch of the North. She prepared him ahead of time to meet and accompany Dorothy. The Tin man has human memories copied into him.

I'm so pleased you called her "Tattypoo" and not "LoCasta".

He is NOT Fiero right? In Wicked Alphaba thinks so when she is delusional about to be crazy and they made it true on the musical

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

saintfighteraqua In reply to DracheaRannak [2009-10-10 16:55:39 +0000 UTC]

No, in the original books there is no Fiero, just the Scarecrow who becomes King after the Wizard leaves.
I haven't seen the musical for Wicked, but though I have read all the Wicked books I must say I didn't find them very tasteful. But perhaps I'd like the musical.

Yes, i have a love/hate relationship with it.
I thought the first book was well written but too gross and un-Oz like. The two sequels though were dreadfully boring and vulgar, not one likeable character among them.

Of the three, Wicked was definitely the best, and even if they did change the story from what Baum intended, Elphaba was likable and the characters were realistic to an extent.

I prefer Neil's Scarecrow to Denslow's one. He is more funny and less frightful. He looks here very thoughtful!

Ah, my favorite non-human Oz character. And my favorite Oz pun: Why did the Wizard fill his head with pins and needles? So he'd be sharp!
