Jerome is asked by Merlin and Tjiminde to travel to Chansya as guardian to the Soul Fighters (Darrell, Del, Jonathan and Janie) who are training in the city of Maritaania.
He grows out his beard since it is easier than shaving and was better suited to the cold weather in Chansya.
Jerome has become attached to the kids, especially Darrell and Del, and he trains them to fight and survive while in this new land.
