Every so often, I feel the need to draw the twins all happy and safely cheerful, to make up for all the pics where they suffer. ;D

Internationally, anywhere from $100 to $160 for Comicworks, and anywhere from $200 to $300 or more for ComicStudio. ^^/
I so want it too. XD *wishes it was cheaper*

Hey I had a question you said you used ComicWorks right? Well I was wondering which was better ComicWorks or MangaStudio? I have never used either, but was wondering.

Sagakure In reply to Brandon88Tube [2007-04-08 00:24:16 +0000 UTC]
Yep. ^^/
MangaStudio is the US release of the japanese program ComicStudio (same program, just translated and renamed), and it's more powerful than Comicworks, but also waaaay more expensive.
However, do keep in mind that I mostly tone on photoshop, have used Comicworks but not as much as PS (I used to tone mostly by hand, only turned to digital recently XD; ), and have only tried ComicStudio/MangaStudio a little bit in a trial thingie. So I can't be very detailed on how better ComicStudio is, but I'm under the impression it has a lot more possibilities than Comicworks, and is simpler to use for some of the tools etc.
Also ComicStudio has something like 3000 tones if I remember well, while Comicworks has less than 250.
However, you don't truly need 3000 tones to get by. XD *lol* It's wonderfully lovely, but not a necessity.
What really concerns me is how well it can switch from a program to the other. The annoying thing with Comicworks is that if you do your whole pic in it, then move to Photoshop to finish it or whatever, then you're fine because it can export the file as a PSD with as many layers as you want........ however, if you started your pic on PS and want to move to Comicworks and keep your layers, you have a problem, because Comicworks will automatically merge them upon importing the pic. This is a very annoying thing, I find.
It's not more annoying because Comicworks is better for lineart, so you tend to start your pic there anyway, but if you move to PS then want to go back, it will merge... Wouldn't be a big issue if I wasn't a layer freak, *lol*. I add text on PS etc, but if I want to go back to Comicworks to edit anything, I lose my layer information.
I hope there's a way to get around this, but so far I haven't found one, and I'm afraid there's none. ;
If ComicStudio can import PSD files without merging layers, then my doujin life will get even happier and simpler when I finally get it. XD

Well thanks for the reply and I'll keep that in mind. For now I'm going to work on inking with Illustrator. I'm decent in Illustrator, but have never attempted to ink before so this should be a learning experience. I also need to get down anime/manga style characters.

Yes, Adobe only seems to care about making money and prices their products as such that only companies or professionals can buy. Just to let you know that Illustrator is a little different and may take some time to get used depending on how open to it you are. I know tons of people that hate it and think its a crap version of Photoshop, but I on the other hand understand its differences and like both. So what I'm trying to say is if you try out Illustrator don't get discouraged.

Lol, sorry for all the questions and talk (probably bothering you), but I wanted to know if you used a graphics tablet or a mouse?

Again, thanks for telling me I just was wondering because Like you said some people have insane mouse skills. I had some pretty good mouse skills, but for my birthday in Feb. I got my first ever tablet a Graphire4 6x8 and I like it. My only problem now is figuring out what to draw and how to draw it. < Constant Block, can almost never come up with stuff anymore...tis very sad

Yeah I adjusted to the tablet pretty fast, but wish I had stuff to draw.
