Description
This is my first "realistic Pokemon" painting! Please click on the image at least once to display it clearly.Because Mew contains the genetic code of every Pokemon, it essentially acts as an ebryonic stem cell. Using this as a theme, I've made my version of the creature fragile, with slightly translucent skin, and visible ribs and veins. The reddish background is also intended to look somewhere between the inside of a womb and of clouds.
Hope I've done this deservedly popular Pokemon justice
in partial response to the great critique displayed below, I chose the light sources I did on the basis of artistic license, with my primary goal being good aesthetics. Any further critiques and comments are extremely welcome and encouraged ~

For your first attempt at a realistic Pokemon character, I must say that this is stunning!
You've applied just the right amount of shadow on the character, and I love the colour similarity of the figure with the background, as I believe another shade may have been too overpowering.
I love how the eyes are bright and alluring and really stick out from the rest of the image!
I don't know if the original characters arms are that short, but if not, I would lengthen both of its arms just a little!

I did do my best to be anatomically accurate, and yes, the character's arms actually do seem to be that short based on a range of references
It's great to know that you enjoy the consistent colour palette between the figure and background! That seems to be the most polarizing aspect of my painting, so I appreciate the positive view on it

I think this piece was a wonderful idea from the start, and the concept is pretty solid. I think, as far as colors though, you could have added a little more contrast. The eyes, with their bright shining blue were a good touch, but the body of the mew just kind of blends in with the background. As for originality, i''ve seen this before, a mew that's supposed to be an embryo, but not so much that it's overwhelming. Most of your technique is solid: ie detailed subject, less detailed background, like it would be in real life. However, if this is inside a "mommy mew"'s stomach I don't see how the light source would be up... or even where it would be at all if it's that strong. Overall, nice piece just a few bugs to consider,

Thank you so much for this. I completely understand your point about the light source - I felt the same, but went in the direction I did under artistic license. Avoiding the main subject blending with the background is something I'll pay more attention to in the future.
