Description Hello, everyone! I'm here to present to you one of my recent achievements in the subjects that was mentioned in my journal, pixel time! Here, we have Ryo giving a powerful dual-arm flex. This is the first time I've done something of this kind of scale and detail in pixels and I'm kinda new to this whole thing in general, but I'm proud of how it turned out. He looks more pixelated in this view because the original size is 100x50, I boosted it to 400 x 200 for better visibility here. I've been learning a lot and this piece helped me learn a lot in one go. Learning to do pixel art from scratch is quite the adventure! It's not perfect, but I hope you guys like it as much as I do!

Also, thanks to Lady-Zelda-of-Hyrule for being a big support as I've been going through my courses and making things. Thank you, sweetie

Edit: Changed the values of the shading for more effective lighting and better skin tone!
Edit again: Changed the hue of the skin slightly to the red and added highlights!

Beautiful line work, holy moly. How long did this take you? The lines are amazingly clean, transition well and the shading is spot on.
Only real crit I think I'd be able to give is maybe darken the shading tones a little. It might just be my computer, but they seem pretty close to one another.

I'm really impressed with this though! Great job!

Wow, thank you! ^^ In total, it was about 3 1/2 hours, I'd say. Most of that being color tweaking.

No, it's not your computer. They ARE very close. I'm still working on knowing how different or similar to make colors for shading and lighting. Sometimes they look more diverse in my pixel program than they actually are. But I took your advice and darkened the darkest value and lightened the lightest value so he doesn't wind up looking too dark skinned. The edited version is up now. I think it looks better, so thanks for the feedback! I'm still learning, so tips like this help. ^^

Thank you! ^^

Oh man, I know the feeling of it taking a while with colors. But wow, that's a fairly decent time too! The effort you put in really shows. c:

Pixels are one of those odd things where lots of things can make the colors look different. dA I noticed naturally wrecks colors on PNGs. It works for darker colors, but if you want to use bright tones it'll fade them. So if you upload pixels I'd preserve their colors by posting them as GIFs. As for figuring out colors in general, it may take some fiddling, but you do eventually get used to it!

Glad I could help! The color changes did improve it a bunch. ^^

Whoa! Excellent work here. If only more old school games had that kind of detail in the muscles they would've been so much more enjoyable to watch/play.

Thanks! ^^ If old school games had that detail they'd be easier to learn from, too. I plan on making the best detail I can when I make game sprites of Ryo later!

Yeah no kidding there, shame more weren't, but hey, it can always be fixed of course.

Thanks! It took me a while, but I think going at it like a sketch rather than trying to figure out stringing together blocks helped. It changed how I looked at pixelling when I realized it was basically just drawing! And I know how to do that. Having layers in Piskel (my program for doing this) helps a ton. Glad the end result pleases! ^^

I'm doing pretty well, thanks. I hope things are well for you too! (And if they're not, I pray they get better)

You're welcome. Oh, I get that. That's a good way to use what you have for something new. ^_^

I'm doing well too.
