Description Hey folks just wanted to give another brief update to the progress of the project. I’m about 90% done with the rig. I just need to add some Ik Fk controls before its really ready to release. Here is the rig with Ik animation controls, not to much to say about that other than it works.

I went back over some of my reference and added a little more geometry to the model and changed the texture a little bit to accommodate it. All minor in hind sight. After going over my Digital Tutors training kits again I’ve gotten most of the rigging done.

I managed to get a good render out of the mix however I’m now having some problems with the toon shader, but that’s all secondary stuff I can fix or tweak later. Those problems are on my end I’m sure; simply by the symptoms of the glitches.

Anyway, here is a render of the model so far. Fear not all you looking forward to this model it should be done in about a week!

Till then!

What software did you use to get this effect?, I dare say its an effectively accurate toon render!

Maya and its toon shader. it took some tweeking but its a pretty straight forward process. to get it working perfectly would take a lot more fine tuning. this was just to illustrate the feature rather than make it a perfect still.

I see... just curious as I am on a journey to find a way to harness this effect for 3D backgrounds.

Hm... a toon shader. Interesting way to render it.

You said somewhere in an earlier deviation ( old though, tripped over this one verifying a "collector account" ) that you used the "original animators reference sheets"... Which one are those?

well some of the animation reference sheets are floating around. I really cant give you an exact link without floating threw the website for about 20-30 minuets to sift for it but it was found amongst other model sheets at fineart.sk it was one of the few avalible digimon model sheets which included color refrence.

though the site appears to nolonger have the section i downloaded it from they, at one point, had over 3000 anime related reference images.

it had the front side and 3/4 side views of the character in a neutral pose. though they didnt completely match up (which is common in hand drawn illustrations) its better than useing screen captures =3

Yeah, those images I found too. They served rather well as reference images for the model although I had no real clue about how it looks so I made up a couple of things which I could not see well on the images.
