Yeah, caught me playing with my......orbs, again - lol. Not sure I'm through fumbling around with this one yet but its close, I reckon.

Enjoy the ride!

You have to have the best mapping techniques I have ever seen. Ever.

I personally like the smoothness of this; texture is good, but this is one situation where it is not needed.

Hi! The water is made by using the "Lake" mapping that is standard in Ultrafractal. You can set the wave amount and the waterline. On this image, I also made a semi-transparent layer in Photoshop and applied the "Flood" filter that's made by "Flaming Pear" to sort of give the water finer detail. Google "flaming pear" and you'll find their website. The filter costs like USD $20, but its welll worth it.

I meant more the vortex effect in the fractal itself not the water though it is an interesting effect

If you mean just the overall spiral design, that can be found using the "Switch Mode(F7)" function in UF. It's an icon on the top toolbar. You just open a fractal window, choose a formula then click the icon and move your cursor over areas of the fractal window. On thee right-hand side of the workspace, a new window opens and the fractal changes as you move the cursor. When it looks like something interesting, just click your mouse at the position that gave the good look and a bew fractal window opens with that fractal in it. Then you just zoom and layer it as you want.

If by "vortex" you mean the sphere floating in the water, that is done using the "Glass Hemisphere" mapping function in the "Standard.uxf" folder that comes with UF. I like to set the center of the mapping at a 45 degree angle a little to the right and under the center of a spiral as I typically shade orbs with the light coming from the upper left. Hope I answered right this time! )
