Totaly awesome sword thing. I prefer characters that don't really need shields because of how big there sword is. Too bad I can't draw my characters

This picture is great and he looks uber-cool, but I do have one question. That black slit on his shoulder is where his sword goes when he's not using it, correct? My question is, how does he draw his sword when he's holding a shield in the hand he'd have to use? If someone already asked this, I apologise, but I am not reading five pages of comments.
