Description
From the beginning of time spiders have played an integral part in the lives of the Fae.As the developing fairy grows slowly in the cocoon a spider will always be there to protect it from predators,sing it to sleep and stroke it gently for comfort.
The day arrives when the fairy is ready to leave her cocoon and emerge into the world.As she emerges the spider whispers words of encouragement helping her free her shrunken wings until she hangs upside down in the sunlight.
This is when the fairy is at her most vulnerable,she is unable to fly on her small wings until they dry.The spider makes sure that she is kept safe until her wings are spread and fully formed.
Now the real work begins for the spider...for the next few years she will train the fairy in the mysterious ways of the Fae world,whispering magic spells for protection until she is ready to be on her own.

Recently, it was discovered that there is one species of tarantula that somehow is symbiotic with a species of tiny frog in the rainforest. For some reason not yet discovered, the tarantula appears to protect the frog and let it live in its home. First time they've ever discovered a spider in either a commensal or symbiotic relationship with a vertebrate. This made me think of that.
Of course...I just can't help but wonder what the fae look like in their "larval" form now...
