Description Aegishjalmur, Helm of Awe on plate. I may add the futhark around the edge, I may not. I will probably end up selling this.

Seeing as you have created this piece,
I would love to know if you know what it means/ represents?
I understand everything else thus far.
But I have not found much information on this particular symbol.
please and thank you

The helm of awe is a symbol found in various "magical" manuscripts in Iceland, supposedly it dates back to pre-christian times, although I think the earliest manuscripts of magic it is found in were in the 17th century. Basically it is a symbol used to provide irresistiblity. It is used in runic magic for this purpose as well as others.

Awesome thank you
I seem to see the symbol a lot, but never get much straight forward information on it.
I mainly wanted to know about it so I could appropriately use it in my art work
when ever the time comes.

Without going into too much detail, my main experience with it is a symbol of "travel" within the nine worlds, much like a compass. The way I interpret the aegishjalmur (Helm of awe) and other galdrastafir like it is in the layout of the eight arms, and the way they are inscribed deals with different influences you seek to send out into the world, or bring in to the subjective to influence your own inner thoughts/feelings etc.. It's a bit complicated I'd say. haha. In regards to when to use it in artwork, that's really up to you! It's meanings are varied. Sorry about the essay here.

Oh this is great, thanks for the information I do appreciate it.
It may just helped with a piece of mine,
I'm doing Odin.
But it's not that easy, I am dong a mock, Book Cover Design for the book American gods by neil gaiman.
On the cover is going to be one of the main characters is Mr. Wednesday- a modern day reincarnation of Odin. I basically have to describe that in the cover. I like the travel idea because he travels with this kid he was destined to meet named shadow, which is latter alluded to be Mr.Wednesdays sun, Balder reincarnated.
Not sure if you are familiar with the book, but I thought I would share

I have heard of the book, as friends have recommended me it, I haven't had a chance to read it yet though. I'll definitely have to give it a go when I clear my current pile of "to read" books.
