I guess looking through my eyes, I haven't seen what I had or even have because of the tendencies to think that I must get through that top echelon of talent. Looking at this now, I think I can make a redo with this guy, and make him look good in not much time.

Actually... there are a few things I would like to say if you don't mind. It's just, I know that you have a lot more experience than me and I shouldn't probably say these because you obviously know them, but I feel like reminding a few things here and there.
Well you can't know where the top is if you don't appreciate yourself, technically, so you can't really see where you're at can you? Talent is one's ability to create something at a certain level, but the level is something that never stands still (which means it can also go downwards too, even though you do aim for the top), whether you like it or not, because ultimately, it's the nature of yourself and your subconscious that holds that talent in you. Art is alive, you've made it a part of you when you realized you were an artist, part of the nature of yourself, and your subconscious is aware of it (hope it makes sense) 
Good things are easy to forget or ignore if you don't know the bad things too (for example, see how many people are complaining about comments like "Awesome" or "Good" and so on). It's what keeps things going. Same in reverse, seeing just the bad things kind of keeps you in the same place if you don't see the good ones such as achievements. You can find things out from us, but just as I said, the ultimate feedback is written by you.
Now to me as a viewer (this is me), a work of art isn't awesome because of drawing technique, but the way it hits me when I see it. Does it transmit the point strong? does it look attractive from all points of view? And then, details, time, technique and etc (everything needs to be considered to appreciate it's true value). Now as a suggestion, you have a lot more to work on your details, (hope that doesn't sound rude, I didn't want to) as now you don't have to worry about how to make artwork transmit it's point. From my point of view, the detailing technique you're using doesn't always fit what you're doing... I don't mind because I can see what you're capable of, but not everyone does, so you need to make things easier to see, if you know what I mean. Things need to be crystal clear, as they are in your mind
You share things with us when you post your art, feelings and stuff, and feelings need to be shared. This is why we share art too, but sharing is a two way route. When you get the feeling back from us then you expect a full understanding of your work. Any of us who is able to see your talent can understand your art, and there is something to talk about at every single piece in your gallery, that's for sure! But on the other hand, I did see works lacking comments... maybe you should have a look at these someday and see why did people skip them?
Overall, you're definitely on the good path. I'm not trying to tell you what to do but I'm trying to help because I care for you as an artist otherwise I wouldn't hit the watch button (that is something I do quite rarely, especially in the last year), or tell you these things. You need to stay strong while doing it, keep it alive like you're trying to keep the little child within you alive. Not everyone is able to gain such a gift, because not everyone deserves it.
But you did. And art is such a beautiful thing to hold on to! It gives you so much freedom... It's just... you know, beautiful. And strong, and worth it... But you're doing it since probably before I was born so I shouldn't dare to tell you that... but I just can't hold it.

Runde you kick the butt! But a couple things to mention... firstly its Longtail not Ringtail though Ringtail does sound cute. Secondly he's not a fennec or a meerkat, he's a fictional creature called a Farlon from the planet Celes'tra.
Technical issues aside, I'm impressed with the pose, very impressed! Also the fuzzy ness and detail looks really good I give it a 9.0 :3
