I honestly think it's just a protective part of her bankai so the missle(or whatever the hell it is) doesn't hurt her face as she fires it.

Great coloring! I love how the mask/face plate kinda looks like a cross between a jester mask and almost like a sort of open sniping gap in lieu of crosshairs.
