Description I was inspired to draw this little lady after watching Critical Role's One-Off game of Pathfinder, where the players played as Goblins. "Piglet" was my favorite.

Just a note: This isn't Piglet, just inspired (Piglet is missing an ear and has a piece of shoulder armor for a hat XD).

Okay, add my "adorable" comment and approval to the stack. Heh. Even the rodent-like bucktooth look just makes her cuter. The thigh decoration of bird skulls is neat, too. By the way, glad you're enjoying 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons. I just started playing it early 2015, playing a human Cleric with the Life domain, and I'm really enjoying it, too.

Haha I appreciate it!
Yeah, 5th edition is nice and streamline, as apposed to the 2nd edition I am used to from my youth.

Y'know...I've always been kind of irritated by goblins as a whole, until you did the impossible and made up this ridiculously cute and somehow appealing little beauty.

Personally- love Pathfinder, and I have a desire to play a Barbarian (or a scald) in the (near) future, so this is just tops. Plus, cute goblin chick.

I have played Pathfinder a little, but I am a D&D fan for longer, and I am really enjoying 5th edition. Glad you like this drawing!

I'm more new to the tabletop roleplaying scene, (like actually doing it), and I've only really played Pathfinder. I've looked at 5th, but it seems more simplified than is my fancy. I know some people like it, but I guess I just find a simple pleasure in skill points. But yeah, it's super awesome.

RoninDude In reply to ava-tobiax [2016-12-23 08:31:48 +0000 UTC]

In my experience, simplicity is the best thing about it, because it keeps things going smooth. Gone are the days of 5 minute player turns in combat (so long as the player doesn't dilly dally). Everything flows really well, and the system is built for additions. Everything is modular and mod-able, so you can really detail any part of the system that you want. I prefer the skill tree as it is, using proficiency and levels to figure that stuff out. Plenty of room for customization, yet doesn't take an entire evening to level up, like the old days. I want to play, not crunch numbers forever. But that's my jam, I guess! There's plenty of systems out there that are made for number crunchers!

ava-tobiax In reply to RoninDude [2016-12-24 05:32:30 +0000 UTC]

I can understand that. And it's not that I want to crunch numbers persay, but waiting for proficiency to go up to get better at skills /and/ attacks at the same time is like having to wait to move my left arm until my right leg has room to move, ya know? I understand it's simplified, but there are certain things that your character just doesn't effect- like you can choose in which skills you're proficient, but the set number and flat value seem to devalue Intellect scores for non wizards, which is a shame. Again, if you like it, fine, I'm sure plenty of people are fine with it, but transitioning to a more simplified system, to me, feels like a subjective downgrade.
(That, and I personally don't find it takes too long to level in Pathfinder- main issue is picking a feat or grabbing a new spell when you can, but that's me being indecisive and not entirely familiar with everything about the system yet. So, maybe a certain situation will be preferable for the way 5th does things for me, but I don't know what that one is yet.)

All fair points! In the end, we are fortunate to live in a time where role playing gamers have a wide range of systems to choose from.

And I can feel ya on the need to customize your character more. The wonderful thing about 5th edition D&D is that it's built to be modded. While it works just fine straight from the book, it's simplicity lets you add in your own customizations with relative ease. So if you like a more complex skill progression, it wouldn't be very difficult to work it out, even using another system (or older editions) as a reference point. Basically, 5th edition is made for smooth gameplay and variant rules (the book even offers some).

I've personally been working on a few add-ons, such as an extended (historically based) list of arms and armor, expanded rules for masterwork and magical equipment, expanded crafting rules that make it more fun to craft your own player made masterwork or enchanted gear, and a few additions to combat tactics/actions (also based on historical tactics). Of course, not everyone wants to work on add-ons or custom rule variants, but for people like me, I like 5th edition most because of the room it leaves for that.

ava-tobiax In reply to RoninDude [2016-12-24 08:08:19 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. And thanks. (I just like to play it oddball sometimes- or not even that, just know there's something my character's really good at that's on me, and not just what his/her class is or what proficiencies I can manage to scrounge up. I'd just like to have the opportunity to become good at something that isn't inherent to the class, like, say a Wizard with really high Survival abilities.)

I can understand the appeal (and I'm totally the kind of person up to customize a system that I know), but at the same time, I've not found the grounds to play it. Like maybe if I just want combat and character development? But then again, having the unique skills and abilities is what helps flesh out character development in ways you don't plan, which I like.
Side note- maybe it's like why I don't really have interest in pre-alpha/early access games? Or maybe if I DM 5th I'll find what's to like about it. I've just mostly done character creation so far.

Oh, that's pretty cool actually.

5th ed also has archetypes which you unlock at level 3, which let you pursue a variant version of the standard class. There's a lot to talk about there, so I won't go into it, but it would be really easy to home-brew an archetype for a standard class that gives you more unique abilities, if that's what you are after (and your DM allows it). You could even use other classes archetypes as reference to make some sort of hybrid class! Could be cool!

ava-tobiax In reply to RoninDude [2016-12-25 04:14:41 +0000 UTC]

I'm aware. Know about (and cooked my own) archetype(s). [Because 5th edition gave Rangers the shaft.]
Mmm, hybrids... (Pathfinder just happens to have some hybrid classes already, like the aforementioned skald.)

RoninDude In reply to ava-tobiax [2016-12-25 17:40:07 +0000 UTC]

Haha I suppose it just comes down to what system you are most comfortable with. Don't get me wrong, I think pathfinder is rad, I just felt that the combat took waaay too long, so 5th ed d&d was very refreshing. I suppose some of that has to do with your party of players, too...

ava-tobiax In reply to RoninDude [2016-12-28 10:15:19 +0000 UTC]

Maybe I don't mind if combat takes long, or the people I play with don't have the same methods as those with whom you played. Anyway, glad you found roleplaying you enjoy.

Glad you got to watch that. This is the sexiest goblin I have ever seen, especially since I know how genetics seem to go with the goblins in the Pathfinder RPG. They tend to look like green versions of Stewie from Family guy. I think they'd prefer this shape you've given. And, that earthbreaker hammer is great.
So, have you started playing or are you just watching for the fun of it? Loads of videos out there.

Great pic!

I am on Episode 46 of Critical Role, actually. Love it!

I have been playing a game of 5th edition D&D for a few months now. Playing a fighter, though I should have gone barbarian, the way I have been playing. XD Oh well, still having fun with the campaign. I used to play 2nd edition back in the day, but it's been a while. I much prefer 5th edition, it's much smoother, specifically in combat!

Glad you like the pic!
