I was thinking about how if I had the opportunity to redesign the Dark Queen from Battletoads how would I do it, and this is what I came up with. Tried to go for a cartoonyer look making little changes here and there but staying true to her original design. I like the toad skullim sure the people working on the game worked very hard on it and this isnt about pooing on them. I just felt instead of complaining about her look I would be creative and see what I could come up with, any ways I hope the game is fun at least

I wouldβve preferred if you kept her sexuality toned up.

You know, this is great - you managed to tone down the sexuality while still not devoiding her of any personality from the source material.
I feel like she'll berate me between levels.Β I feel like she has hordes of monsters at her beck and call.Β I feel like she'll actually still TOWER over a lot of her lesser subjects (she's canonically 6' tall after all)...and well shes just so fuckin Regal Looking.
I have mixed feelings about the current rendition of the Dark Queen,Β I mean I'd have to see her in action before making any real conclusions but I'm not impressed - I feel like they just generi-slapped her with Great Value Shego or a Militant Sindel wannabe.Β Just doesn't feel like they really put any love into her redesign to make her the worthy adversary that she is.

As modest as this looks, this is far more faithful to the Dark Queen's original vinyl leotard design.

The safest option with the design from the trailer would be if she was related to DQ and was called "Dark Sorceress" or something among those lines. The design of the new one doesn't fit the name. And if she really is Dark Queen, then that's a really PG design for a game that's going to be the most successful with people who played OG Battletoads in the 90's.

I gotta say, your take is a lot better from what I saw. Here, I can actually tell she's a powerful magical leader. The new design I just saw looks more like some kind of one time Kim Possible villain, I don't get a 'queen' vibe from that one now.

My best guess is they are too scared to portray her as in the original games because of the SJWs running wild and waiting to strike at anything they see offensive to women.

They really screwed the pooch with the dark queens redesign. I was more worried about tifa in FFVIIR, but she actually didn't turn out so bad.

I'm excited for the new Battletoads... But I actually didn't see Dark Queen in the trailer; or rather I didn't recognize her! I had to look it up again to see if I saw that right! Geez, that's how she's gonna look in the game? It looks...rather boring and less intimidating. I don't even care about the "censorship" but... Wow, it looks boring to me. But you know, maybe it's the art style of her that makes me think that. The Battletoads look great but her, not so much... But maybe it's not the art style of her. Maybe it's just...boring regardless. XP I dunno, I'm conflicted.
Nonetheless, I think your redesign is better. XP That goes without saying imo. lol

Your own rendition of Dark Queen is quite awesome and as for the upcoming game, most people should be concern on how good the gameplay is and not just the designs alone.

Yeah, this is how one would redesign her, by keeping the feel of the original design intact rather than being utterly embarrased by it the same way Square did with Tifa.

You know, my friend did same thing with Ms Marvel. He made up his own design for her on twitter and it's amazing.Β
I also saw the tweet of the new design on Dark Queen. To be honest, I'm really not a fan of it. Sorry, not trying to be offense to the people that work hard on. It just doesn't really suite her style at all. I feel like that isn't the real Dark Queen. However this art piece feel like a real master piece in my book. You really got her style down and made a new design of her and I really love it.

I thought the art style controversy sounded like a bunch of butthurt too.Β
I mean granted the Dark Queen COULD'VE looked closer to her original design, but I thought the artstyle had some zany charm to it. Which is kinda fitting because from what I've seen, Battletoads was a very zany franchise (even at its most violent).Β
It also has that Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles vibe. Granted I don't hear that people LIKED that show per se, but from what I've seen they DO love the art style. So why give Battletoads crap for this artstyle when Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was doing the same thing?
