Maybe there is a way to tell the artist would be less condescending?

Like, maybe "hey! I noticed you refer to as mammuthus imperator and mammuthus columbi as two different species, but most scientists actually agree that "imperator" is probably just large specimens of columbi, or maybe a subspecies of columbi. I thought you might want to know to edit your text?" or something.
