Description An incredibly dull picture I decided to upload to show the (entire) finished costume (my FIRST sewing and crafting experiment, actually. And I'm rather happy with it). Full body shots isn't exactly my thing :/
Also, 3 hours barefoot in the forest! Feeling STINGING NETTLE with my feet isn't exactly my idea of frolicking, but at least I've a couple of worthy shots! Not sure there will be more in the near future (I'm leaving for France in September for a year, leaving the costume behind), so I guess I will take my time posting them.

UPD: right, forgot the tips! I remember being grateful to people who added them to their descriptions, it helped me a bunch.
Chainmail: black turtleneck and leggings + net fabric + elastic over the edges
Tunic and shoulder pads (are one slipover piece of clothing): base tissue + painted golden rings (of different sizes) + faux fur + ribbon (to connect the two pads); green stockinet (stretchy one) + elastics of 2 types (thinner one for the vertical straps and larger and darker one for the edges and to connect the pieces) + press studs (it buttons up on side with 2 elastics I had to sew with nonelastic piece of tissue).
Scarf: 2 triangular pieces of patchwork tissue. The back one is wrapped around the ribbon connecting the shoulder pads.
Belt: faux leather + plastic buckle and key ring (sewed to the leather) with painted air hardening clay around them.
Leather parts: base tissue with golden rings (for the leg pieces) attached to it + glued straps of brown crafting foam (painted and varnished after) + elastics with press studs (hand pieces - without it). The only piece of costume that is not really wearable AND lasting. It's difficult to walk in them, and the wrists, knees and ankles cover in ckracks in less than an hour. The leg piece above the knee is the worst.
Face: temporary tattoo (the laser printer method), refreshed with a liner + wig + silicone ears (bought, not made) + ear cuff to hide the edge (I needed it for a con, but eventually decided to keep both it and the round earring).

Cosplay by
Photo by my friend Dasha (hopefully I'll return the favor... IF she ever finishes her Isabella costume!) Increased contrast and saturation.

I really love your Merrill - you look so sweet. I am currently working on my Inquisitor that has similar leg parts. I really do not get it - thats so frustrating

Ooooh do not get me started on the leg parts, they are THE WORST! They would've been much better if they weren't thigh-high: they keep bending and crackling around the knee if done with crafting foam! You can see that the final shape is far from optimal. I got some old photos of the process if you're interested.

Gluing the knee stripes with your "boot" on is important to get the right angle. Then again, my boots are far from ideal. Wereable (somewhat), just not too many times. There should be a better way.

Thank you very much - that helped a lot! Maybe I will evazote as material - somebody used it for a batgirl cosplay, or maybe fake leather, but that has to be made stronger .. somehow I will get it

This is amazing! I'm in the process of researching my own Merrill right now, so thank you for the detailed description! The chainmail was baffling me, but using net fabric is genius! Thanks!

Welcome! If you need any tips, ask away!

I owe the idea to this tutorial, but it seems like quite a lot of people used net fabric too (example 1, example 2, others I can't find now. All you need is to pick up a right fabric. Imo, mine was a little too bright)

Also, of course, there is this, but it is beyond perfection and human capabilities *_______*

Awesome, thanks for being so helpful! I may have more questions as I go along~ ^^ One immediate question is, from where did you purchase your elf ears? Thanks again!

Roksik In reply to Chiigusa [2014-01-16 11:31:13 +0000 UTC]

In a Russian on-line FX/make-up shop. I was considering this shop too: good prices, but IMO there is no right shape for DA elves.

Ahhh, gotcha. Yeah, there's a great elf ear online shop here in the US, but nothing seems to be QUITE the right shape for Merrill. Thank you again!

Absolutely one of the best Merrill cosplays I have ever seen.  I love the trim you added on the tunic (?), and the shoes, gauntlets and belt are fantastic.  It's also one of the few I've seen  that mimicked the chainmail (no mean feat) and I really like it.  You even used the gold rings!

All of it is wonderfully done.
