Would I be allowed to have permission to use this as a roleplaying character in the future? I wouldn't start making a bio without your permission and it wouldn't be right away, but I would love to use these two on my roleplaying website. Let me know either way and thank you in advance. I really love this piece of artwork <3

This is HippieAle on my websites account. I know it was a long while ago that I asked permission to use this image for a roleplay character. I started it on a thread that I posted previously, but never even finished him and he got forgotten about. Well! While making a character for a new zombie roleplay, I came across this picture and was like, holy crow! So here is the proper link to credit your awesome image: z13.invisionfree.com/Everythin…

An After The End group, eh? I might be so inclined. I've had a bizarre fascination with this type of stuff since I was a kid. I blame Mad Max and The Terminator.
Oh and nice art. It does remind me a bit of The Road but more hopeful... and with a horse, of course.

haha, thank, yeah took a look at the groups existing, and wasen´t any group with the type of things i really wanna do so gonna see i can create one^^was thinking of having char role play and all char design made with for example 50 points and then u can choe what to put ponits on, like some of it on physical atributes and then the rest on psycological atributes(loner, leader, religious), u´d have to choose a "profession"(rouge, religious leader, trader) means of transportation and so on. there would be a cathegory of negative attributes u´d have to chose from and if u by free will take more negatib u get more "points" to give ur char positive attributes..ohhh, wall of text gonna end now, hope it made some kinda sence anyways^_^

First off, I have to be honest and say that I've never done any RPs, despite being a nerd at heart. So please pardon if I ask noob questions along the line.
Sorry for the wall of text, but I've been working hard on a Post-Apoc world myself. Over the weekend, I was struck by inspiration and made a not nearly as destroyed version of the same world. The genre actually has a lot of wiggle room. Two big development questions come to mind:
1. How much is destroyed and how much has been rebuilt? (especially government and infrastructure)
Stop throwing your trash away and cleaning up and see how messy things get around the house. That's what happens when society falls apart and everyone from garbage men to generals stop going to work (and keep in mind that this gets compounded by whatever damage war done by the disaster itself). Without an effective central government, "governmental alternatives" coming into play ranging from one respected leader with a gun and an iron will to a military unit lacking orders but still intact to a religious organization. How benevolent any of these might be varies, but all of them will try to establish a functioning community. There's a rough time about 1-5 years after the disaster when the preserved food is all gone, the batteries are all dead, and the cars are dead by default since fuel has either gone bad or been used up, but as time passes. Someone will eventually figure out how to rebuild simply because humans aren't known for rolling over and dying when faced with desperation. How much they can rebuild varies. I put my "canon" universe at the early medieval technological level with modern design principles while the alternate universe is technologically circa 1945 with cars, modern firearms, and radios, but no fancy computers or Internet (it's Post-"Not Quite" Apocalyptic).
2. How "serious" is the atmosphere?
I've read some deadly serious Post-Apocalyptic works such as The Road and some obscure, not so well-written ones. People die left and right of disease, starvation, and minor injuries. Child bandits lure naive adults into traps. Practically everyone steals stuff and kills people, but they're mostly just terrified and desperate civilians who don't know what else to do rather than evil bandits. The number of guns and supplies ammunition available varies from work to work, but a universal theme is that the men with the guns get to make the rules. Morality tends to be gray at best among even the nicest of the nice guys. On the other end of the genre are some of the lighter works like Mad Max and Fallout. Some of the more realistic elements are dropped for a focus on story and adventure. Scavenging and survival is still a focus, but there's usually enough around to get by. There's bullets and weapons a plenty for everyone. The bottom line is that either version can be done well or poorly, but there's a bit of a dividing line on the factor of realism versus adventure.

wow, wall of text right back at me^_^the setting I had in mind would be pretty much if the world actually ended now 2012, so technology would be on our levle, except from satelites going down, no electricity, unless from an own windmill or such^^ there would be areas to avoid, known for beeing the home of gangs, but you should ´never feel totally safe, the RP tasks would be kinda harsh, like if you don´t really care and just do something halfhearted your char might lose an ear, which worsen the hearing for the next assignment, and if u continue to do a halfassed job your char might die..^^

That helps, but can you answer two questions for me?
1. How many years (roughly) since the disaster?
Having a fixation for this sort of stuff, I can tell you what is or isn't likely to be around X years after the disaster.
2. What country would the setting be modeled after?
Obviously, things are going to unfold very differently in the US compared to Europe. And even within the US or Europe, things are going to unfold very differently in different areas (compare rural Alabama to New York City or England to Switzerland as very extreme examples).
Oh, and the disaster itself is zombies combined with civil unrest, right? Anything else in the mix?
I guess what I'm saying with these text walls is that I'm offering to help you with this group.

well...um...I don´t know, do u have any good proposal? ATM im slammed with school work so christmas is not gonna be long....and starting a group right now is pretty much impossible for me too...-.-haven´t you considered making a group? u seem to have a lot figured out already!^_^_^_^

QuebecoisWolf In reply to Roiuky [2012-12-19 13:52:51 +0000 UTC]
A good proposal? Depends on what you're trying to do with the setting; little things like:
-Vehicles? Very few vehicles? Or no vehicles?
-Guns? Lots of guns? Very few guns?
-Canned food still edible? Or is it all eaten?
-What sorts of bad guys?
-How does culture cope?
Sorry - I keep putting up these walls of questions. Looking at the actual art, it does remind me of a lighter and happier version of The Road (one of the grimmest, darkest, most depressing works ever written). Let me think on this.
Have I considered making a group? Nope. Not at all. I have no idea where to start and no time to start it.
