Description This is something I was working on for the game Sims 2, for making a little Atlantis. I call this the grand window because it's above the grand staircase.

If you don't know which I'm taking about, it's the window in the background here: [link]

This is the bottom middle pane (does anyone want me to try and do more?), and if you would like to use it for non-commercial use, feel free. I'd prefer some credit somewhere and it'd be cool if you commented about it so maybe I could see it or something.

For example, my sister used it in a sig of her's [link] . She thought I could spare others the effort of all of the detail.

Design credit goes to the set designer and builder people there on the show.

which all eventually is owned by MGM

I'm new here - my first post!  RogueDragon, I love your Alterran window designs!
I'm building a 3D model of the Atlantis gate room and would like to use your Grand Window and your gate window designs.  I'll be happy to credit you.

I'm going to try to include modeling screengrabs in this post.  Bear in mind that they are screenshots from the modeler;  the model will look very different in a rendering studio.

Your Grand window design, applied to the 3D mesh in Silo:

The white areas of your design will be clear refractive glass in the rendering studio (Poser 11 Pro, using the Superfly implementation of the Cycles render engine).

As I mentioned in the Gate Window piece, I've been attempting to draw this on and off for a few years now as inspiration hits and time allows. I started first with MS Paint and just got too frustrated but now since I'm trying to learn vectors, I thought I'd give it another shot. I'm happy to see another person's interpretation. Hope to have my version up for comparison soon! My ultimate goal is to have a scalable design to make *real* stained glass window panels just like the actual set design.

I would VERY MUCH like to see this attempted in vectors! For the very reason you suggested and vectors seemed less limiting than pixels can be. I hope to see your version soon!

Thanks so much for the encouragement! Actually I'm working on it now.
All I can say is "THANK GOD for isometric grids and node-snapping"!

I think what makes this such a challenge is because all the shapes interlock like a jigsaw puzzle so if you're off a bit on the start, the errors compound quickly. This is mostly what killed me using pixels because correcting mistakes was just a nightmare.

I'm quite sure the original production designer wasn't as constrained as I'm making myself - his/her primary motivation was probably just to have something that looked cool before a 3PM deadline! LOL

Will make a WIP file and upload some stuff soon.

Thanks again,
Dru

I love, love, love the windows!!!
If i get the chance - I want to use it in my work!
But the one thing I'm wondering about now is - have you actually done an Atlantis window for the Sims 2? I just stumbled upon this window today, but the funny thing is that I've been looking for windows I can use for the Sims 2 as atlantean style windows, but I have been sadly disappointed!
If you do have a good working atlantean window for the Sims 2 - are you willing to share? *wink wink* Plz?

I haven't experimented yet with the gate window, but I have experimented with the gate window yet, but I have with this one.

When searching for windows that could be recolored to suit my needs, I eventually settled with Numenor's seamless windows: (Had trouble finding it... [link] )

The trouble for me is Sims takes so long to load (unless I move around downloads, and even that takes time) before I actually see the results for my trial-and-errors. I am far from being an expert object recolor-er in any respect.

but this is what I have so far: [link]

Oh, well that looks great indeed! I have no experiece in recoloring any objects at all, just clothes, genetics and wallpapers and stuff, so... Hehe
I love the stairs too - are they yours aswell?

Yeah, tricky as heck to make, and I think it just replaced the old file in the end. =Nebulan has been bugging me to share what I've made, but I don't dare upload anything anywhere until I feel like it's perfect... which might be never oh well, I'm experimenting now with the gate window... I think how I did it before was saving over a different color... *sigh*

I am so in love with the geometric Atlantean stained glass. Thank you for making the pretty picture of it!

Oh, and another thought... who do you think is the poor bloke who has to repair the windows after First Strike and Quarantine? Some perfectionist maybe... like Dr. RogueDragon from Anthropology? Or Atlantis has some autobot for simple repairs?

Ooo, brilliant idea, maybe the windows regrow themselves like Tok'ra tunnel crystals!

Like I said, if you have an idea you'd like to use it for, you're welcome to. Should I try and do the whole grand window? I think I want to, but I'm trying to come up with a motivation so I'd do the work... pictures of the upper windows are tricky to find...
