This is a hard one to have concrete description because I did this free style mostly at night time… a sketch of it came first with absolutely no thought of meaning. The pen sketch was a project for 2d design for a surrealisms project (the teacher kind of picked a good subject for once ) When we did critic on the sketch of my work that looked very alike to this painting. Several students explained that this painting felt to them that the artist who did this was confused, slightly sad. Also that he had a lot of things in his mind atm… and also slightly isolated… and like my life is still under construction in a way.
That is what they said basically and they got my state of mind in that moment in time and that is why I decided to paint it.
While I was painting it I realized that this painting did have that feeling they described but than I looked into the painting more and saw that I basically painted my family…
I have 3 brothers but one brother is in another city in his own house so I did not add him in…
The painting has two males one male is tided by a rope to the middle mask which is female the rope is put like an infinity sign forever love. (My mother and father) the far left face is my brother. And I am in my fathers mouth the little green character. The white path crosses through the mouths of all meaning we are all in the same path we still live together. And my father still has a lot of advice to give me so in a way he has a lot of say about decision I make in life still… the rope that ties the right male mask to the ground by wooden pole means he is still very much in charge of us and he is tied to the ground more than my mom and brother to job...
Surrealisms is your unconscious and I think in this painting some how I did that… because I really did not think of prior feeling or actually planed it… it just came to me.
Some things I still can not explain are the paint bucket and the boat… or the shallow water… The bucket is half explained to me I think it means that I have left many things in my life unfinished un painted… and yes I have left some of my art works for a year or so not finished… and just now I am getting to finish them.

I'm impressed! I love this one and could look at this for hours. It's also a pleasure to read your description to tyour work which makes it understandable like what the artists thoughts are. For me this one works on so many different levels and that's what i love, the image speaks to me. This is an outstanding piece of art i think, i love the surrealism and this is one of the best i've seen here on DA so far. Have to take a look at your gallery, i'm needing more of this!

I really love the surrealism and the colors you chose were perfect to give it that subtle, dreamy feeling. The water was a nice touch and I like how you did the sky/background.

Awesome painting. I love the little unrealistic details in it. I especially like the fog water. It reminds me of the Myst games. I'd love to live in a place like that.

Incredible piece ... it evokes a sense of awe in me. Lots of detail; I can see this as a scene in a film like Labyrinth or the cover to a fantasy novel.

damn, partikl took my comment on the fact this is a great take on the Tragedy/Comedy masks.
great having that description too. heh, art sychology. I think it's interesting that the tracks that connect the three of you leads from your father through your mother then to you. somewhat stern father, mother happy go-between? the wall, steps and boat perhaps a feeling of imprisonment at home and there is a chance to 'escape' that? the dropoff by so close by representing the dangers of doing so?
don't know, not much on psychology.
but no matter what the reasonings behind it, this piece is well done.

Surrealism is surrealism and incouncious is incouncious.... they are different things.... though it´s true that some surrealists intented to say that their work came from their inconcient, every piece of art have a part of it....and they dont need any explanation to be like this.....
This piece is very beautiful.... i like it a lot.... but it´s surrealist because of the style, not for the interpretacion.....

This piece is really amazing and deep. I love the mood it creates. For some reason it reminds me of a slow jazz beat I was workin on the other day (I play drums)....The fact that this is an actual painting instead of digital is even more amazing. Anybody can download filters, tubes, abnd programs and with enough practice create a work of art, but it takes true skill and talent to be able to convery your emotions clearly with a brush and ink (or paint). Amazing, i am left speechless *start "Im not worthies"*
