Brilliant and horrifying. The woman knows she's dead, so she's got seconds to make one last decision. Only one...

The police officer looked at the newspaper and then at her weapon. She felt the damned grabbed her and then she aimed the gun at herself.
Bang!
The police officer fell down.

Every movie based on a book would be fine if they didn't "base" it off of a book they had not apparently read in their lives.

this picture reminds me of a picture from a game i played, the only different scene is that the character is a British 22nd S.A.S. operative, blocking a door from a horde of zombies, apparently unharmed, and the zombies hands is plainly greenΒ

Her facial expression is really touching. How she supports his gun hand with her other hand adds a lot to the image. A very sad image overall, which is your success.

Th3-M4ster [2012-12-02 06:04:17 +0000 UTC]
She scrambled up the stairs, firing blindly behind her as she limped as fast as she could to her apartment. Moans and gurgles were at her heels, the heavy stench of rot thick like mist. A decayed hand grabbed her hair and tore away at it. A foul mouth clamped shut on her left arm and found bone. She screamed and fought back.
The gun went off twice. Two head-shots. Two dead zombies. But the rest were coming, hollow-eyed and open mouthed, calling for her living flesh. She crashed her full body weight into the nearest door. It opened so easily she lost her balance and fell to the floor. They began to follow her. Hurrying to her feet, she tried to close the door, but hands and arms were already through, clawing at her, their nails digging into her.
She had to fight! For months she's been doing all she could to survive this global disaster and today wasn't the day...
What? Today wasn't going to be THE day? Her last day? She had always thought that she would instinctively know when she was on the last day of her life, that she wouldn't take a single moment for granted, that every second wouldn't be wasted.
Yet here she was; bitten, cut, battered and bruised. She had one gun and maybe five bullets. What was she going to do to get out of this?
'WALKING DEAD', read a newspaper clipping on the wall on her right, 'NO HOPE'. Someone had added 'THE END IS HERE' at the bottom in red. The end of what? End of the world? No. There was word that humans were making a stand out on the golden coast. No Hope? There's always hope for the world. She believed this.
But there was NO HOPE for her. In her case it was THE END. Even if by some miracle she managed to hold back the zombies, she would become one of them and begin chasing other survivors, maybe even her own loved ones. And if she didn't hold them back, just how long would she be conscious as they ate her?
No. None of that. She won't be turned and she won't live her last moments in torment. That's went she felt the muzzle of the gun under her chin; the last thing she would feel. Tears fell from her eyes; the last she would shed. She inhaled sharply; the last she would breath. She pulled the trigger; the last thing she would do.
The zombies broke in and had a meal.

For your hard work.

If you are interested, Deviant Nightmares is preparing for another horror anthology scheduled for release in late 2013 and we're looking for fiction and illustrations that are zombie apocalypse related. you obviously have the talent. If you'd like some of your work considered for inclusion into a horror anthology with worldwide distribution check out the journal entry with rules [link]
and submit your work to the DNA 2013 illustrations folder [link] , or fiction to the DNA 2013 stories folder [link] . Both are open to the public so you do not have to be a member to enter. Hope to see your work and good luck. deadline is February 28th for stories and a month or two after that for illustrations. We'll be looking for cover and interior illustrations.
