Weeell, Slovakia IS bigger than Slovenia..

And I find it kind of ironic when people of bigger countries say their country is small because most of them are several times bigger than either of mine (I'm Slovenian and Croatian, both nationality and heritage-wise).. And I'm like "if your country is small.. what is mine?"

And I think both of Slovak and Slovene flags were based off the Russian flag.. right? Not sure because my bad memory often interferes with my knowledge.. lD

But you are living only in one country right?

Yes, we are all small and have complexes about it, but could be worse we could be Microstate

No not Russia Pan-Slavic colors

FoxyPika In reply to Rodegas [2014-06-15 20:53:21 +0000 UTC]

Well, yeah. I'm currently in Croatia.. But until relatively recently (about a year now..) I lived in both countries - Croatia during weekends and school breaks and Slovenia during school days (which was possible because both places are quite close to the Slovene-Croatian border), this changed when I finished school and went to a Croatian one. So now I live at my grandparents all the time instead of just weekends and school breaks.

I knew about the panslavic colors and stuff though How could I not? I mean I consider myself a panslavist and all that, but I think my brother once told me Slovene and Slovak flags were based off the Russian.. But anyway, there's only a small number of orders in which to put three colors, so coincidence is completely possible.

hhh don't have complexes! Your country is awesome! uvu (and yes I've been there.. Twice. Well, only Bratislava, but it's something. Especially since I got to see it in the best winter time -a few years ago, sometime around Christmas, there was snow everywhere and it was SO cool- and this year in the middle of/late spring. (not sure what does end of April/start of May count as) And I tried the garlic soup in bread, and kofola. Great things, really great things. uvu

Croatia also has some things inspired by Slovak things.. Such as songs.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOdhE8…

www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pZEQB… (Croatian version of www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gky0W… )

There are also some folk songs I have heard in Croatian and Polish. In both cases however, most people here believe those songs to be local songs of Međimurje (which is a region and county in north Croatia)
I've been told that those songs (well the Slovak-based ones anyway) were brought here many years ago by a pastor who has been to Slovakia and brought the melodies back with him.. Apparently forgot the lyrics though, since they are unrelated to Slovak lyrics.

And then there's this cool rumor kind of thing that you can go to Slovakia and speak the dialect of Prekmurje or Međimurje and the people will understand you better than people from other Slovenian and Croatian regions
Which ought to come in handy for people who are from either of those regions.. Or the ones who are, like me, familiar with both.

obviously, I love Slovakia
Even that time one of my brothers showed me the page sho.sk and I was like
#support

Here that's why there's no reason for complexes

I am impressed by your knowledge of Slovakia and, why did you visited Bratislava?

I had been in Croatia, few times when I was a kid, well I don't need to explain why (the sea!!! ) Also when I was kid and there were other kids I speak slovak they speak croatian or serbian and we somehow understand each other, isn't it interesting ? It must be because we were all slavs, long live Slavic countries! Although why do some slavs fight each other...

Interesting so you have interest in folklore? it seams to me that you know a lot.
Although the first song is I guess from  Moravian Slovakia

sho.sk?
Well, they have some good ideas, but they obsession with Jozef Tiso   is kinda annoying.

responding to old comments like a boss

It was a trip hosted by the doctors'.. something, idk how it's called in English, my parents are both doctors so they're part of it so basically ye

mmm Slovak and Czech are quite a lot similar to southern Slavic languages. Polish for example is more different, but maybe that's just the impression because they write differently, with those sz and cz and such.
I don't know why they fight, but.. some things my brother told me. That the other big nations, are afraid of us, and dread the time Slavs would unite, because they think we would play world domination like them. So they try best they can, to keep us apart.
I'll say spectaculations because I lack the needed knowledge and proof, however I've been told that the Yugoslavia war is work of the West.
Also, confirmed info: When the Roman empire split into west and east, part of its border was, what is today the Croatian-Serbian border, and that's where the hate between the two countries has its roots at. Pretty stupid now to think of it, this wasn't even a Slavic conflict to begin with, but when for generations, people live in an area where others encourage hate of people on another area, they start to hate them too.

And yes, I like folklore^^
though a lot of the info I know comes from two of my brothers, especially one of them does a lot of research in history and they both love this folklore stuff, and when either of them learns something interesting about it, they tell me, and I'm eager to listen~

P.S. about the flag, I went looking back through old conversations with a friend I discuss those things with as well, and I figured the thing. My brother told me the flag of Slovenia was based off Russian one, he didn't say anything about Slovakia though, that was just my assumption and eventually things got mixed up in my head..

Well, to blame Foreign intervention for conflict between Slavs is too simplifying, since you can never blame just one side.

So any interesting pictures of slovenian folklore?

Yeah, you're right.

hmm well I'm not so sure about folklore, but I do have pictures of nature and places..

(I know about the colors, by the way)

Hmm, nature and places, you must post something unusual!

FoxyPika In reply to Rodegas [2014-10-03 18:18:58 +0000 UTC]

hmm, what do you mean with "unusual"?

I guess, drawing out my occassional dreams and "visions" would be more interesting, but I'd get frustrated for not being able to make them look exactly as I see them in my head..

Rodegas In reply to FoxyPika [2014-10-04 09:32:08 +0000 UTC]

Something with interesting storyline

Yes, I had the same idea with dreams but like you say its not that easy. So you write the dream after you awake, or ho you memorize them?

FoxyPika In reply to Rodegas [2014-10-04 09:39:49 +0000 UTC]

Well, some dreams leave quite an impact on me, and there were dreams from my childhood that repeated several times. So I remember them still..

Rodegas In reply to FoxyPika [2014-10-04 12:21:21 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that happens sometime, anything interesting in dream, did you find ancient knowledge in lucid dreams?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FoxyPika In reply to Rodegas [2014-10-04 14:35:13 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure about ancient knowledge, but some of them were very mysterious and made me want to look for the places I dreamt of.. because those were always places I've never seen, but they were near places known to me.. Like a tunnel near my grandma's house that lead to an old shop+restaurant, some bridges in a forest path I sometimes visit (it's pretty.. although recently changed, because of the floods, which changed the flow of a stream there) that lead to a lake and a town floating on it.. and so on.
Also one of them was somehow predicting the future or whatever. Not everything that happenned there, but in that dream we had a small black dog, I had this dream years before we actually got Mrvica (which is indeed a small, black dog). Also a garden house which appeared in my dream, but we didn't have it at that time. However the tower and scary man from the dream did not come true.. (basically in the dream, me and my friends were chase by this old man with a stick who came to my family's land, claiming it was his, and wanted to beat us with his stick, we would run toward the end of the garden and hide, one time in a garden house, but he always found us, until one time we hid in a glass tower, also in our garden, that was very tall and its top room was made of wood.)

And often I wonder what could be the deeper meaning of the dreams. Like one time when I was maybe 6, I had a dream where I was chased across our garden by a pack of wolves. At one point I slipped and fell, and I thought the wolves would eat me, but they just went around me in a circle and stared at me. Then I woke up and I don't know what would have happenned in the dream..

Rodegas In reply to FoxyPika [2014-10-05 22:50:54 +0000 UTC]

Well in many cultures people believed that dreams were omens or prophecies but meh who knows for sure
In modern times, dreams have been seen as a connection to the unconscious mind .
And that what is was thinking about lately too. And so once I had a dream:

I was in bed and the phone was ringing, when I look who's calling it was just some strange symbols numbers that made no sense.
But yet I know that it's my sister calling, we are talking about something, and then I have suspicions it is a dream, I look on mobile and realise there is none, so I am in dreaming. Then I go to a kitchen where are two persons I guess my sister and mother, but I know it's not them they just have their appearance. So I am asking them who they are, is this all just in my head, who is creating this dream (I was conscious so how?) , does it have some deeper meaning? I am assuming there are either my unconscious or subconscious but still I dont understand how it works. But still what if someone else is creating them in my mind.
Either way I wanted them to help my to gain full control over my brain! telekinesis telepathy yess, can I possess such power?!
But of course they are speaking in some riddles, like "how do you know you don't already possess those powers , if you don't try to use it everyday". But I am saying that there are no evidence that it is possible so it would be futile...
Yet, I had so many questions but they were never answered I was awakening (for some reason..) So no useful answers XD

Westlywheatly In reply to Rodegas [2014-05-18 09:45:05 +0000 UTC]

Australia? Well I guess so but a lot of people mistake Canada as part of the USA or forget entirely about it. The only real reminder of Canada is Justin Beiber. It's funny in its own way!!

in hetalia Canada has an extremely low presence and is shy, he also gets mistaken as America (USA).

Rodegas In reply to Westlywheatly [2014-05-18 11:34:53 +0000 UTC]

Well, I don't think so many people really mistake Canada with USA...
But there is not that big difference, both are former colonies of GB and they stole their land from poor Indians

I saw few episodes of hetalia and didn't find it funny, sorry...

She didn't even know japan was an island! And mistook Russia for China! And that is very true were total warmongers and America is a total attention wh*re!

kamarát: "No, Prague is in Czech Republic. I'm from Slovakia."

učiteľ: "Ahha, sorry, so Ljubljana."
