Description Ok firstly I will state no photo manipulation with this pic!

Just patience and fast working!!

Took a couple of roses from the garden and a couple of birthday cake candles the really little ones and cut them down - then it was a matter of balancing them in the center of the flowers and lighting them.
Working fast enough to take pictures and not have the petals burn before I was done. ( yes they were real roses) was quite fun and inspired by my earlier works with ice hearts and candles found here -

hehe well it was the first thing i though about when seening the roses (first book is a flower too on a dark cover i think)
but it gives a very nice ambiance

third book i think is the flower *toddles to check * first is the apple, second is the fancy tulip, third the torn ribbon, and fourth the chess pieces.

but they were probably done a little more high tech than me hiding in the bathroom holding everything over a sink of water just in case it caught fire

all my 'burning rose' shots are done with real roses and the result was well worth the patience and effort to get the shot right - we have some pale coloured roses just budding at the moment - when tehy are in bloom i can't wait to try something like this out with one of them to see how the light works - as most the ones i have been using are either purple or pink

Like i said..., "Nothing good comes easy...Perhaps you might try one with the full-moon in the background(which will require you to shoot from the ground up)!!!

it might be an idea but we have no full moon here at the moment ( mainly due to clouds and such) and these were actually just shot in my bathroom for lack of a better place to do such experiments

Of course not..., the full moon will occur next on Nov. 2nd(2:15), and Dec. 31st(2:13)...The light of the full Moon will require a greater depth of field(probably F8) with a longer timed exposure to bring up the halo of the moon..., but, this is only a suggestion!!!Good luck...

i'm working the late shift that date so i will be up when the full moon is in a good spot for me to see it just have to hope for a few of the late roses to still be flowering then and see what comes out

OK..., but just in case you want to try this effect..., i have always simply placed a dark blankie or cloth on the ground, and then set a compositional "still-life" around to photograph outdoor themes. The full moon is visually in effect 3 days before, and two days after(You can set the rose up similar to those settings in the bathroom). But any timed exposures longer than 20 seconds will show the movement of the moon...But this is key...,one must always use F8 or greater to get the light of the moon combined with the rose in the foreground....! That is all...Chop, chop!!!!

OMG..., you live in the UK? OK, so that makes sense about the outdoor weather...But not only clear night, but also warm ones. Most photographers are "fair weather friends..."Long live the Queen...!"

rockgem In reply to airlux27 [2009-10-13 21:52:14 +0000 UTC]

its made with real shepherds last i checked its lamb, vegetables and a creamed/mashed potato topping ( or ther is cottage pie think same but with minced beef) i think if you began to over contemplate what was in a lot of foods you wouldn't touch half of them ever again !!

rockgem In reply to airlux27 [2009-10-13 22:51:00 +0000 UTC]

yup thats part of my avoidance of them - though one time i did eat a steak and kidney pie - because i didn't realise it was steak and kidney - when i found out i felt a tad ill lol!

yes i have an English accent my American friends always describe it as 'cute' i don't get the appeal myself - but i live in the West midlands - not to far from Birmingham the area is known as 'the black country' due to its industrial past though when you think Birmingham think sounding like Ozzy Osbourne but i sound nothing like that thank goodness!

Ummm, Hi again luv...This comment got cut-off from under the line..."from Birmingham the area is...(I don't know why it does that, sometimes it accepts a fully longer comment..., and sometimes it doesn't!!!)
