Received a Certificate of Excellence Award in the Portrait Society of America's 2011 International Portrait Competition. The competition recognizes only 35 paintings out of over 1,750 entries this year so I feel highly honored to receive this award.Oil on Board, 18 x 24 inches

Rob, it's easy to see here why you're a winner. This is an exquisite piece. No, she is not a buxom babe with luscious breasts, the kind one sees too often that they become meaningless. She is so much the kind of person you would meet at an evening adult class or a supermarket, very human, very "us". You have made her iconic of our universal condition. The cares and concerns that weigh on her with the weight of the world appear on her face, and these are the thoughts and emotions of humanity with which we share and identify. Finally, we have those gems that the angels place in our midst to lighten our cares or make them bearable. Often, these are cats. Your insight reveals you to be not only a competent draughtsman, but an artist. Oh, and the complimentarity of your color palette is perfect. Bravo to you.

Beautiful composition, mood, colour/ brushwork.
If you squint at the picture it becomes more photo-realist than a photo-realist piece! The blue strap on the shoulder is a wonderful colour note.
This painting inspires me to strive for better technique - well done!

Amazing. Somehow it looks like unfinished, but then again cant complain about the excact proportions and lights that gives it a really realistic looks. Rough brushstrokes makes me wonder just how is that possible...
