Description This is from my JLA piece:

I've taken each of the characters from that picture and re-used/re-done them in their own setting. Mainly done as an exercise to test how I light and pose each character - but also just because I thought it would be cool!

Never was a big-time reader of the Flash. But I liked the 1980's TV show they had, and I've always liked his costume. I love the way you did the motion blur and the coloring. Is this a painting, or is it digital?

Hey Steve. Thanks for taking the time to comment on this. This is 100 per cent drawn in Photoshop using a Wacom pad. I usually draw stuff in pencil first and then scan it in to color - but I just went straight in on the computer for this one. I think I'll stick with pencil and paper for the layout work in future though as I found it really hard to get the composition right working from the screen only. I don't know what you think - but I think that it's actually easier to rough out a piece on paper first - because of the ease of trying different lines. The motion blur was done by duplicating the image, off-setting it and increasing the transparency - simple but effective.

Well it's an awesome piece of work! I've got a Wacom tablet myself, but I haven't used it that much... I got it right about the same time I got the 3D program Poser, and I found manipulating any models in 3D space too difficult with the Wacom mouse and pen. And I didn't want to be switching back and forth between a traditional mouse and the Wacom one, so it sort of fell by the wayside. I have used it a few times when creating textures for my Poser models, as I like the whole feel of a pen when airbrushing and such (I use Paint Shop Pro 6). I don't know though.... seeing your version of the Flash is inspiring! I may have to hook up the tablet and play around with it some.

I know what you mean about the tablet. They do take some getting used to and aren't suited to every application. Like you - I think they're good for airbrush work, but they come into their own for 'organic' work. I remember buying mine after trying to draw the fur on an Ewok (the teddy bears from Star Wars) using a mouse! That type of stuff (and hair etc.) is a piece of cake with the tablet. I also use it alot with the 'smudge' tool to simulate sinews in muscle or creases in fabric. Hope you stick with yours and that this gives you some ideas for when you might think about using it.
