I cannot imagine how did you close down the station for the time of shooting Or how other way you managed such a clean (of people) shot. But you did a great work here! (Er... have some ideas, but never tried them yet.)

I read the comments about different film scenes and I miss Star Wars a bit, but 2001 Space Odyssey is a good choice indeed!

When I made a photo shooting trip to Vienna this spring, metro stations were way less clean and well lit... Az Museums station it was even broken with parts of the ceiling missing... I was really surprised as I always saw that people in Austria (and in Vienna, too) are keen to keep their homeland clean and tidy. Perhaps I was there in the wrong time.

it actually took some time to get a clean shot as there are almost always people walking to or from the platforms (which are to the right and left of this hallway). usually the best bet to shoot empty train or subway stations is to go on a sunday morning (after people who spent the night out have gone home) or sunday evening ...

the stations are quite clean regarding trash but there is often graffiti (which takes some time to replace) and sometimes ceiling or wall tiles have to be replaced (and until they are it looks less clean or they might be missing). so I don't feel confident to say you visited at a bad time. it's simply chance. next time maybe it's better, maybe the same, or maybe worse. also easier to get a clean shot if you envision a photo and can go to that place as often as your schedule allows. very different if you're somewhere on a trip or vacation where you get one opportunity.

and admittedly, not all my subway photos are that clean out-of-camera. some got a little retouching.

I was thinking about shooting some metro subway images with extreme long exposures or as medians of several shots to let the people disappear, but waiting the right moment when everybody is ouf of sight is also a good job. I did it even in the Valley Temple of Khafra's pyramid in Gizah, when it took half hour standing in queue to get in... It may happen! But yes, being there in the low traffic hours is a great help

I have nothing against the clean-ups I just quoted Yoda to my admin friends in one of my groups "Your digital images retouch you must, young padavan. Fake them you mustn't." Cleaning, toning, tuning, etc. is not faking I think. Putting the Gloriette to the end of the tunnel would be a fake.

You wouldn't see a station that clean in america. It would probably be trashed and there would be graffiti destroying the beautiful architecture. Truly an amazing picture.

well done with the capture such a shiny floor too! Vienna must keep their subways much cleaner than the US!

I only know u.s. subways from movies where they get totally destroyed by either neo, or terrorists or stuff but yeah, public transport in Vienna is kept pretty clean. could be even cleaner if passengers wouldn't leave their trash everywhere.

thank you very much

you're welcome The US subways are nothing like they are in the movies! The subways usually have trash everywhere and grease stains They are also very cramped but I think all subways are like that Β
