Angelo Vulpes stood outside of the medical ward. His face was grim and he said nothing for a long while. Finally he looked down at the small sheduck whose expression was completely unreadable. "Was it really necessary?"

"He was afraid and his fear was a liability. A liability we cannot afford. This will give power and the bravery he needs." Alex's answer came cold and direct.

Angelo watched as the rooster struggled in his nightmares, crying out in pain. He watched as Alex turned to walk away. He called after her. "You should have done something else." He regretted the words. He knew questioning High Command was a dangerous thing, especially when their High Mistress was already in a nigh intolerate mood. Still he didn't take back what he said and steeled himself as she turned

Alex looked up at him, her face calm, a violent storm growing in her blue eyes. "You're right doctor, I should have done something else. I should have killed him. May he always consider himself very fortunate that I was so merciful." With that she turned and left.

Angelo watched her go, trying to get his heart to start beating again. Finally he stepped into the room the rooster suffered in. He lay a comforting hand on him but said nothing. What was there to say?

Dr. Angelo Vulpes had seen Steelbeak through the nightmares in which he woke up from -- and lived through. He saw the image of perfection the rooster tried to live, but saw the hidden cracks that came with the stresses of his high position, sealing them before Steelbeak could see them. As a father to the rooster, his duty was to protect, and to guard, and as per his vow; to do no harm.

To clear up any confusion, in the bottom panel, Angelo is comforting a young Steelbeak after getting his namesake.

In mine and 's Darkwing Duck universe, FOWL High Command -- Steelbeak's parents -- had given Steelbeak a mind wipe for training purposes. As it wore off, he started to remember those who he had hold dear to his heart. I will be doing a compilation of pieces to help tell the story.
