Description I have no idea where to put this. I will scrap it at a later time, maybe.

I guess, Motivational Poster.

I've seen a lot of recolors, edits, and art theft from deviants. Some knows it is wrong, some are just clueless, and think that their recoloring is some kind of effort on their part, while it is not effort at all. Your rpc of Sonic recolored isn't effort at all. DRAW YOUR CHARACTER YOURSELF.

True effort is creating your own artwork. No matter your artistic level.

I've heard many whine, "I can't draw!" or "Everyone does it!"

No not everyone does it. Look around on DA, there are plenty of artists of many levels who puts a lot of effort into their works. While you just recolor something stolen and pass it off as your own.

Moral of the story? Don't steal. Create your own work.

I don't think I'll make more of these. I just wanted to make this one for some reason.

Believe it or not, everything is mine in this poster. I made it from scratch.

Photo taken by me on Vivacam10. Made on Gimp.

In the photo are some of my tools for creating my drawing. A #2 pencil, 0.7 Mechanical pencil, erasers, pencil sharper, makeup brush ( for brushing away eraser mess. I don't wear makeup. ) .

Recolors, edits, art theft is not allowed here.

Totally agree. Effort is making your work from scratch, not stealing others work and ruining it.

If anyone don't think they can get sued for recoloring existing characters from other artists, take a look at Nick Simmons!
Don't know what he did?I'll tell ya!He took Orihime and Kenpachi from Bleach, recolored their hair and changed their outfits and put them in his comic Incarnate! Not just them too.He took various characters and many story frags and poses from over 7 mangas!!!He even stole artwoks from our fellow deviants from deviantart!!
Now he's in a whole mess of legal doo-doo!Possiable permentent removal of his lisence to make comics and MEGA possiablity of being sued! Please don't do it!!!
Srry rmr34 I think I wasted your time with this....Please forgive me I wanted to give an example of such a real senario...

One more thing I wanted to add is why can't the people who recolors screen shot and fan art just use a base?!
All they have to do is credit the person who drew the base. They're more then happy if they use it.

Okay...looking at my hand drawings, would you say that my characters are original? I need outside opinions.

I can't really give critique since I myself need alot to improve on. All I can say is to practice.
Whether original or not, original or fanart, if you drew it yourself, no matter your skill level, that is great.

Also, these need to be removed: [link] [link] they use picture that you didn't create nor did you ask permission to use, yes?
and these: [link] They are from a doll maker sonic thing, yes? I believe those go in your scrap gallery.
Anything that contains pictures or screenshots you did not create or have permission to use need to be deleted.

read the FAQs that I have in my artist comment of Effort for more info.

Ah...I see...well, I see what you mean, but I'm not getting rid of them because I WAS given specific permission to use what I used, including photoshop. So, simply put, they too, are original. Just saying.

The Yugioh cards?
Did you get written permission from Sega company to use their official Sonic pictures?

WildfiretheTiger In reply to rmr34 [2010-07-25 00:30:31 +0000 UTC]

Not directly. I got permission from the ones who got permission to use them as they please, and the people of the card-making website as well. So, indirectly, I have rights to them. I put effort in other directions when it comes to those kinds of things.

BTW, I made those quite a long time ago, so I don't take much pride in them anymore.

No, you need the permission from Sega, or they will be removed if you don't have Sega's permission.

I would think that DA would have cracked down on me by now, but they haven't. BTW, If you are referring to that illegal act as plagerism, then I'm going to have to call you on that one. Plagerism (as my english teachers defined it) is where you take a work and claim it as your own without making significant changes to it. The Yugioh cards I made as well as my own Sonic Trading Cards do not fall under this catagory, for I found and was given materials and tools to work with and I used them to the best of my ability...But that's just how I learned it.

I've seen Those yugioh cards get removed when someone reports them. One has to report in order for dA admins to remove them, if they get to the reports. And yes, they will be removed sooner or later. You did not read any of those FAQ's that was in the artist comment. You HAVE to have permission from the copyright owner to use their pictures, such as Sonic.

I'm not going to waste time by trying to get it through to you since you already made up your mind that those cards are totally yours and so much effort went into them. No. NO effort.
Only effort, truly, is your drawings you drew, that is true effort. Not, take a picture from the web, go to some site that makes Yu Gi oh cards, and slap them together. That does not make them yours.

Sooner or later, they will get removed.
dA is so backed up with reports, it will take time to get to them.

Take time and read these, carefully:

I get it. I get it!

But from the start, I was asking you ONLY about my hand drawn sketches. You brought up the cards and other images!

If they're removed, that's an event beyond my control, and I really wouldn't care.

And I have read them...at least all of those regarding submission originality and copyrights, so you wasted your breath in that last part. Besides, everyone has their own set of morals anyway, so you can't really judge someone else's actions based on your own morals...at least, not most of the time.

I'm not sure why you bring up morals, when it's about the rules of this site. But whatever, I'm done. Next time, don't leave a comment when you have violations in your gallery. I don't care if your hand drawings are original or not, as long as you drew them I think that is good, no matter your skills. If I see something that is a violation I will tell you, or I can remain silent and just report it.

Maybe I should get a makeup brush to get rid of the eraser mess! I always blow it off the page, though I sometimes spit a little in the process.

Awesome poster, Ruth.
I think you did a brilliant job of explaining why people should create their own artwork for dA.
And it's quite rare to see a poster that's 100% created by the person who uploaded it.
