Description This 1/2000 scale model of Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) battleship HIJMS Yamato, the world's largest battleship, sat on a stand depicting the Kancolle shipgirl in a display case at Shizuoka Hobby Square.  From this high angle, the 73,000-ton Yamato's 863-foot hull shows its streamlined shape, which helped the battleship reach 27 knots.  The twelve Kampon boilers could put out 150,000 horsepower, but their high fuel consumption shortened the battleship's range, a problem that intensified as the Allies cut off Japan's supplies.  Other details here include the seaplane catapults and the arrangement of the three triple turrets, whose 18.1-inch guns were the largest ever fitted to a battleship, though the Design A-150 battleship would have exceeded that with six 20.1-inch guns on an 80,000-ton hull.  After the Battle of Midway cost Japan four aircraft carriers, the IJN cancelled the A-150s and all new battleships except Yamato, Musashi, and Shinano, converting the third ship into the world's largest aircraft carrier.
