Description This F-Toys 1/2000 scale model of Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) aircraft carrier HIJMS Hiryuu (飛龍), the younger "half-sister" of HIJMS Sohryu, was displayed with a card of her Kantai Collection "shipgirl" at Shizuoka Hobby Square in Shizuoka City, Japan.  During the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, HIJMS Hiryuu led Admiral Tamon Yamaguchi's Second Carrier Division and launched the planes that struck the American battleship USS Arizona (BB-39) in the bows, setting off the magazine explosion that destroyed the ship.  After Pearl Harbor, HIJMS Hiryuu launched attacks on various Pacific islands, as well as the Indian Ocean air raid that sank the British cruisers HMS Cornwall and HMS Dorsetshire.  At the Battle of Midway, she was bombed by the Americans and scuttled by a torpedo from HIJMS Makigumo (巻雲), which had collected many survivors but not Admiral Yamaguchi or Captain Kaku, who had chosen to go down with the ship.  Given HIJMS Hiryuu's short but violent service record, the character design for the Kancolle shipgirl looks strangely cute, elegant, and innocent.  Perhaps that is part of Kancolle's appeal.
